why would you wonder that silverfox?

if they have jobs and paid for themselves you will ask what they are protesting about

and if they don't have jobs you can dismiss them as feckless

why start another thread on what is essentially the same topic

I guess they could all have free university education like the 70s if they reduced the number of students from the current 2,000,000 to the 1,000,000 there were in the 70s.

So which half of them are going to go home and get a job?

Just for perspective, I know of a global bank moving outside zone 1 in London

Roughly 80% of the workforce appear to view this as a reason to leave

Several people on 3 figure salaries expect someone else to pick up the extra tube costs or else they will leave for that reason alone

I know who I have more sympathy with

To be fair, if I was on a 3 figure salary, I think I'd struggle to pay for travel myself. Or rent, food, clothing...

In the City right now, it's getting dark and helicopters are drowning out the conversation in our office. They'll be getting cold and tired now so expect proceedings to kick off shortly.....whether its a few windows smashed or a full scale plastic bullet extravaganza remains to be seen.

Agreed. First year doesn't even count towards your degree a lot of the time, and it would mean a lot of people would drop out pretty quickly, which probably wouldn't new bad thing either.

    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
    • The accompaniment to our "Christmas Pudding" aka Nothing-Whatever-Like-A- Christmas-Pudding last year  at The Cherry Tree was "brandy butter ice-cream." If it had ever been near any brandy, the brandy must have been waved in its direction from a very great distance. Same with butter. The ice cream tasted like bog standard "vanilla" from a catering tub. At least it did bear some resemblance to ice cream. Whereas the "Christmas Pudding" bore no resemblance whatever to any Christmas Pudding I have ever seen or tasted in my many  decades of seeing and tasting Christmas Puddings. Oh, and Cinzano Bianco. Bleurgh. My sister used to drink that. 🤢
