Big drive in Sainsbury on dog kennel hill.. you can park the car,get it washed, buy food, and all you would xpect from a large sainsbury.. ask the locals and they you go.

You're in luck, a trip to East Dulwich Sainsburys and you'll be able to shop for TV's, DVD players and clothes to your heart's content. I believe they even sell phones and multi-media type devices. Top it off with a Starbucks coffee and you'll find ED ticks just as many boxes as *shudder* Collier's Wood.

Two hours free parking, and even some nice men who will wash your car for a fiver.

What's not to love? :)

Sorry Barry, shouldn't have had a laugh at your expense (although it wasn't me that mentioned Waitrose to start). I hope you have a very happy time here in Ocadoland. Actually, you'll find a lot of us are very anti supermarkets. When you've been here a while and had a chance to check out all the local shops you'll find that it's much more fun to do proper shopping the old fashioned way. If you have any problem finding places to chain up your bike just mention it to James Barber (ED councillor thread) and he'll get some more installed I'm sure.

Barry - luckily many of the buses that run down Lordship Lane go by Sainsburys DKH so you could bus it for those times you want to do a larger shop, or get a trailer for the bike ;-)

William Rose on LL for meat, Moxons on LL for fish, the grocers up Northcross Lane where the actually serve you old-school style for fruit/veg and SMBS on LL for jars and stuff.

I only find I use the supermarkets and ocado for things like flour and bottled water, heavy stuff basically plus shopping this way actually generally ends up cheaper then Sainsburys, especially the butcher and grocers.

And I rarely emerge from the butchers with a new DVD, 3 lightbulbs just in case, a new casserole dish that was on offer and a 6 pack of tins of tuna that I didn't know I need!

Oh at the bakers up towards Goose Green end of LL for squidgy bread. I love the posh stuff from other places on the lane but a ?4 loaf is only for special occassions!

ocado.co.uk reliable, easy to use, they send you money off vouchers, wide variety of groceries and it's delivered straight to the door. It's a cheaper option for me than going to supermarkets as I manage to stick to what I need and can clearly see all the offers on products. I tried Tesco and Sainsburys online and they were rubbish for multiple reasons.

I do sometimes go to the individual shops on LL such as William Rose and the ED deli but for a big wkly shop it's ocado.

I popped into Iceland yesterday for a few things - a lot cheaper than the Co-op for Allinson's bread and a couple of packs of butter.

Welcome to ED Barry!

We don't have a car either but you can get the number P13 bus actually to within the Car Park of ED Sainsbury's! Other buses (40, 468, 185, 176) all stop v close by too.

Regarding local businesses... I'd highly recommend Guy Sparkes (GG Sparkes) mobile organic free-range butcher on Northcross Road market on Saturdays... his pork belly and shoulder are just amazing.

perhaps this strange cove will be relieved to hear that he can now get an actual waitrose home delivery, rather than the highly disorganised and somewhat unreliable ocado we have put up with with some years.

I tried the Waitrose delivery service and they were awful on both occasions. They turned up with items missing without telling me whereas Ocado would have text me. Also the delivery slots options are better with Ocado as they deliver say between 1-2 and always be on time and text you to remind you about the due delivery whereas Waitrose were 12-2 and don't remind you. Plus more offers on Ocado's website and easier to navigate. But you have obviously not had such a good service with them whereas I think they're excellant in comparrison to Waitrose.
