Bubble and squeek - east dulwich road

Recommended Posts

The old fish and chip shop 'The Codfather' is being turned into a posh fish and chip (and more) shop.

Bubble and Squeak, the old cafe, will either become an arts and craft store, a kids clothes shop or a nail bar. Or another Morleys, maybe a Tesco express.

What would people like to see there?

No Waitrose nonsense please.

We run offices on Gowlett Road and personly I'm looking forward to a fish and chip shop as long as its good. Tesco's is not the best after a while.

I don't think we need another trinket/card/baby clothes/gift etc shop or curry house.

That chippy (and more) needs to be exceptional given the amount of time it's taking.

Nothing, other than the bike shop maybe, has really thrived on that strip since 'Hannah's' which was a great, unpretentious place.

Let's be honest, it is SE22 but it's not really East Dulwich is it?

Even with the Zandra Rhodes bollards.

How about a 'Gregg's'?

PBoy: Nope. Not mixed up.

The OP on that thread was asking about pubs in Nunhead / ED / Peckham Rye.

Pretty sure it's somewhere in one of those after 15 years of living around here.

Jeremy: I bet when they put their bins out the back they're in SE15.

I know it's SE22 but if anyone's thinking of opening a business there, I wouldn't look at Lordship Lane for inspiration. The artists' supplies place and the kids' clothes shop both folded pretty quickly and I can't see the overhauled Gold Lee breaking the cycle after the posts about it on here.

It's difficult to know what would work there, especially as the leases are probably close to Lordship Lane levels because of the post-code but without anything like the footfall.

I've taken to going along the back streets to Goose Green rather than have to look into the cold, dead eyes of the owners of the Gold Lee, nail bar and barbers when they realise I'm just passing, not spending.

What about a fish pedicure place?

I don't recall the kids' clothes shop, which probably proves your point, but IIRC the "artists' supplies place" was not so much that as a rather downmarket craft supplies shop (the sort of craft where somebody else produces the stencils, stamps, stickers or whatever, and you just use them, rather than actually creating much yourself).

I may be wrong, as I only went in a couple of times, and once was their closing down sale (didn't buy anything) but that's the general impression I got.

This could be just a rumour but i heard it was going to be a takeaway pizza place - poss called Papa John - is that a chain?

I was having a think about what kind of shop i would want seeing as i live on Solway Rd - however i can't think of anything i need that i can't get either in Peckham or Lordship lane

I think a japanese would be fantastic - brave, but if it were good people might go out of their way (or at least walk past places on LL) to get to something unique for the area. Which of course is what you need people to do with the limited footfall along there.

I do know that the building opposite that row of shops that I think used to be a taxi place and is now flats upstairs and empty commercial space below has had it's planning application for conversion to all flats turned down - it seems Southwark council isn't willing to give up on the parade on both sides remaining commercial.

    • This! And just a polite reminder to certain posters on here, the title of the thread is "cyclists taking over paths"!
    • Is there more news on this? Plus Council/Gala response on the tree lopping?
    • If 85% of car drivers are regularly breaking the law and think they are above it - then it suggests they aren’t being caught and fined doesn’t it?
    • But we are talking about the cyclists are we not? Did you also notice the very same pedestrian walks across the pedestrian crossing and what happens...the cyclist cycling up the wrong way of the cycle lane doesn't stop at the pedestrian crossing....   Perhaps you would like to try and find fault with the pedestrians in the other video....or are you refusing to watch that one too...time to take the blinkers off perhaps... Well if they get caught speeding they get fined...you can kill someone when youre riding a bike and claim the speed limit doesn't count for you and you can't be charged with causing death by dangerous cycling. Is that perfectly acceptable in your world?   As I have said for a long time the daily repeated examples of.bad cycling everyone can see must be down to arrogance or ignorance...which one is it? Police are starting to have to more aggressively police cycling not because they want to but because they have to..why..because cyclist behaviour is getting worse.
