Goose Green Play Park - slippy matting

I slipped on the grey/green matting surrounding the large wooden climbing frames at Goose Green Park on Friday morning and broke my ankle badly. Obviously not ideal at 32 weeks pregnant but I?m glad it wasn?t worse.

I have written to Southwark Council to warn them that this area is very slippy. If anyone one has slipped there, I?d be grateful if you could PM me.

I haven't slipped there but really felt for you reading this. That sounds very scary at 32 weeks pregnant. Really hope you are okay.

the matting is constantly slippery there when its even slightly wet- have seen many people fall over the years. Sorry to hear you've broken your ankle though.

Then it is clearly not fit for purpose, and they should change it.

I slipped in same spot this weekend - it was like an ice rink. Glad you are ok although broken ankle sounds pretty horrible!

I've slipped there before. Thankfully no injury though.

It's treacherous. I know someone who broke an ankle on it a while ago. When it's wet I'm very worried my little one will try to walk up / down it.

Much as I think James was an excellent councillor, I think it's a bit unfair to expect councillors to pick up on every issue raised on the forum unless it's specifically brought to their attention!

I did suggest adding it to their thread, Sue. Just making an observation that James was much more proactive in his use of this forum.

I saw two children fall flat on their faces and an adult fall over today. No harm done, but lots of tears and the children weren't too chuffed either. I'll add it to the councillor thread as it needs attention.

klh this is awful for you.

You might consider getting some legal advice on this? If other people have sustained injuries then there is a good chance the council have already been advised of the risks. You have broken your ankle which is a significant injury......the fall being all the more concerning when pregnant. Liability?

It has been a very traumatic event and so I am anxious no one else suffers an injury there!

Looks like some prompt action has been taken now in the playground, although some patches of slippy stuff are still there. Thanks to anyone who was involved in making this happen.

Thanks to both klh and ed26 for raising this issue with me - by private message and on my thread respectively. I'm pleased that I've been able to help.

For what it's worth, I try to look through the forum when I can but to make sure I don't miss anything important in have also turned on email notifications for private messages and posts on my thread. So if you need anything from me then one of those two options - alongside simple old fashioned email - is the best method.
