Congratulations to the Black Cherry, officially the Best Bar in East Dulwich 2006 as voted by you, the users of the East Dulwich Forum.

Look out for the trophy in The Black Cherry in a week or so after it's been engraved. Hopefully they'll be overwhelmed and will put it pride of place somewhere prominent.

Thanks to all of you for taking part, there wouldn't have been a result without you. So once again, congratulations to The Black Cherry on Lordship Lane, officially The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2006

East Dulwich Tavern is unpretentious and eclectic!

Good Music, and good sense of fun!

***** News Flash - Friday 2nd November ******

Yesterday, as the voting deadline for the presigious Best Bar in East Dulwich gets closer, people were abusing the website with false registrations and fake votes (which have been removed). We have now had to make the poll open to registered users only to ensure fairness. Register here

OK, so just to explain, you now have to be registered to vote because someone decided to get round the system and add lots of votes to the Vale. These votes were swiftly removed, unfortunately during the 30min removal session this evening no votes would have been counted.

I can understand that bars want to win this prestigious award and will go to any lengths to get their hands on it but please play fair.

Only registered users can vote please click here to register and vote for the best bar in East Dulwich

May the best bar win.

It's Monday, the poll closes at midnight Wednesday.

Have you voted in the award for the Best Bar in East Dulwich 2006?

It's going to be close. The Black Cherry is currently in the lead with 21% with the Bishop (17%), the EDT (13%) and liquorish (13%) closing in. The rest of the field are still in with a chance but they have some catching up to do.

I thought antic already had EDT - might have been the very first Antic pub in fact

But Antic did do some weird "split" to do with structure/money and he could have been a victim of that. Or was that the Lodge era (god help us)

Anyone know where he is these days?

Rumour had it that he left after his version of an incident did not match what was on CCTV.

And the pub was already Antic.

    • Would anyone have ends of balls of wool, any colour, to mend an old blanket? Any colour? With thanks Mila
    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
