I too love east dulwich and the edf - and I must even admit to a soft spot for the grumpy old men/ women of the edf! You have to wonder if any of them would really give up the joy of bashing yummy mummies, bugaboos, cafe lattes and overpriced x (fill in the blank) for all the tea in china.

Interesting view...

Most of the selfish people I meet in ED aren't particularly smug, rather they seem defensive and insecure... and there don't seem to be that many particularly selfish people around anyway.

It seems to be a pretty good community; people let you out at road junctions, people hold doors open for others, you don't see many public disagreements, shopkeepers chat away, there just doesn't seem to be much obvious anti-social or openly selfish 'don't give a toss behaviour' that you see in other places.

Seconded!

I've been burgled whilst in bed in Topsham (Devon), had my car broken into in Ditchling, car stolen in Stanmer (both near Brighton), car broken into in Dundee, purse nicked at London Bridge station etc etc

Stuff happens everywhere.

Or stuff happens to some people Sue! Sounds like you've had a right run of bad luck there.

    • Franklins is lovely but it usually only has one veggie option, so if your vegetarian doesn't like it they might  find it hard to find something else. So it might be worth checking out in advance what's on the menu on the night you want to book. Maria's is also lovely, but it's very small. I didn't think they had a table large enough for 8, but reading the above I'm obviously wrong!
    • We live in East Dulwich and often to go Rye Lane. I know people say there are good restaurants near Rye Lane.  Does anyone have recommendations for good places for lunch or dinner?  We like Manze for pie & mash at lunch. And I've been to Peckham Bazaar in the past, which was excellent.  Thanks!
    • My husband is currently a full-time carer for our two disabled children, and he’s keen to get back into paid work where he can fit it around our family needs. He’s immediately available and looking for local handyman work — from snagging and DIY jobs to gardening or general fixing-up. He’s capable, practical, and reliable, with plenty of hands-on experience restoring and maintaining, including with heritage/listed properties. If you have a to-do list you never quite get to, or need help with those annoying finishing touches, he’d be happy to help. Please drop him a message if you’d like to chat or check availability. 07968345884
