It would be great if one of the local pubs have a rock n roll night with a live band! 1950s music. I am a teady girl and always have to travel miles to see a good rocking band! If they did i could asure them it would be a full house! and i know the best rnr bands to hire. :-) :-) :-)

Why don't you approach the pubs and ask them?

Many are always looking for good live bands which will attract the punters.

Hoopers and The Ivy House are two which spring to mind immediately :)

The Rose on forest hill road would be good as they have a stage and space to dance! Also I know they posted on here recently asking for new ideas for 2012 and I would defo be interested in going! Even if just to wear a rockabilly dress :)

David & Kezia used to do jive classes at the Telegraph Pub on Telegraph Hill.

There's also Diamond Jive at the Railway Tavern in Tulse Hill. Used to be on a Monday.

Both are inexpensive and a good way to learn.

Miss Aloha at Hula Boogie is the nest though!!

Hoopers have had complaints about loud music, so unfortunately live rock n roll might not be a good idea for them right now.

The Rivoli Ballroom in Crofton Park has a Jive night. It has a really good reputation and looks like a lot of fun! I think they have a website. I know it is not in ED but its a famous venue so may be worth a try!

Hallo, folks - I've only just picked up on this thread but I thought you might like to know that we are starting up the jive classes again at the Telegraph this coming Wednesday, 7th March.

We are going to teach just the one class a night from now on (beginning with absolute beginners for this cycle, leaving us with plenty of time for a free dance afterwards, to which anyone who fancies coming along is more than welcome. It would be great to have somewhere local to go for a bit of a midweek jive, so if you are remotely in the mood for a pint and a dance, you know where to come! If you know anyone who you think would enjoy it, do let them know - more is definitely merrier.

Although we have occasionally had stacks of people turn up to the lessons out of the blue, we generally try to keep class sizes pretty small, so we can give everyone maximum attention.
