Would be grateful for recommendations as to which soft play is best for under 1s. My son has just started crawling but can't yet pull himself to standing. I'm fed up of putting things back on shelves and walking round behind him to check he doesn't hurt himself with stuff so thought that soft play would be a nice change. I know there are a few locally so would be interested in any recommendations. Thanks

Little rascals at Bellingham is best for all round ease of parking, food available, lots of space for babies

Take proof of address to buy membership which is about ?7 and Knocks 1/3 off entry iirc

Otherwise Peckham is ok but parking and cafe etc are all problematic and you only get 45 mins for your money (rubbish if you miss the start of the session too)

Gambados is fantastic for the kids, my daughter and son both love it (I just turned 2, L 8 mths). If you buy an annual pass it's a cheap morning out.

I only go quiet times so it's fine, however, the customer service is an absolute joke and they fail to provide contractual benefits they are obliged to, are aware of this but simply choose to do nothing about it.

Don't expect to gain speedy entrance they claim to provide at busy times (the reality is they only open a member gate at half term).

Also if you have a second baby, you don't get the second child discount unless you take their membership out at the same time as the first child - ie your renewal falls on baby 2's 1st birthday!

If my children didn't enjoy it so much I wouldn't choose to deal with them.

Second toddler world at crystal palace, especially for that age. my 18 month old daughter still struggles with soft play places that are made up of big climbing frames, such as gambados or Brixton leisure centre, I find toddler world with it's big open space she can go off and explore more freely and is now breathing more adventurous and climbing up the few things they do have there.

If you fancy going further afield there is a soft play area at the Army museum on Royal Hospital Road Chelsea.http://www.nam.ac.uk/kids/kids-zone We took our daughter (16 months) there a few weeks ago and we all had a great time. It's well designed with a separate baby area. You do have to pay by the session #2.50 for 50 mins but that was enough time and it meant that it didn't get overcrowded.

What makes it even better is that it's very close to the Kings road and so when they crash out in their pram afterwards - you can nip off and do some shopping or lunching. A perfect day! We went on a sunday when it was easy to park in the residential streets close by, but it wouldn't be difficult to get there from Victoria.

    • I may be a scrooge but to pay over £100 plus for a meal is a bit much. I understand that staff costs would be a high factor in this price and that being no transport on Christmas Day - pubs may have to pay car hire fees. The café in Christ Church will be doing a 3 course meal in the run up to Christmas for around £30 per head (Booking essential) so to charge an additional £60 plus seems somewhat unreasonable. The past few years, there have only been the 2 of us on Christmas Day, so we lash out and buy a lot of M & S food - ready prepared or with minimal cooking at a cost of between £30 and £40. We host the family Boxing Day onwards (8 - 10 people) spending around £60 on food and drink. Rather spend £100 for food etc over a couple of days rather than £200 for one meal. We are fortunate that we have the finances  to do this as many people are not able to do this. One family member with young children would find it hard to spend even £10 on a Christmas meal. Our kids come armed with plastic boxes to all family meals to take home any leftovers - so we are left with minimal waste- any veg and meat  get made into soup.
    • That would be Dulwich Wood ward wouldn’t it? One of the wards Southwark added Nov ‘23. Maybe the estate against didn’t get the memo. Oh man what a shit show.
    • If anyone had half an ounce of intelligence they would vote for the Green Party or a real socialist alternative. I have never, and will never back a bunch of ‘champagne socialists’ who have not done a single positive thing for working class people.    Louisa.
    • That the leaders of our country are wealthy people comes as a shock to you? How ridiculous.  Why shouldn’t they be living in those houses?
