I think KalamityKel missed the inference that these offenders are putting East Dulwich SE5 or East Dulwich SE23 or similar. I don't think it was directed at people writing East Dulwich SE22. Whilst that is inefficient it is not misleading..
People all over London often describe their area by the name of the nearest station... it's not unique to Dulwich/Peckham/Camberwell. Hence Camberwell residents may often say they live in "Loughborough Junction", "Denmark Hill", or even "East Dulwich". Doesn't necessarily mean they're embarrassed about their post code.

So where would people say ED ends and Peckham / Camberwell Start?

For me, Ed ends at the station, Everything on the DKH estate side up to Grove Hill would be Peckham, and the Sainsbury's side would be Denmark Hill/Camberwell. Hoopers on Ivanhoe Road would be pretty much border of Peckham and Camberwell, definitely not ED.

I consider Goose Green and St John's Church to be part of Dulwich, but everything after that, including the playground, The Green, The Gowlett, and Kings on the Rye would be Peckham.

Going up the hill, I guess ED ends at the bottom of Sydenham Hill / Hornimans.

Yours is a tough one *Bob*.

You should tell your arty media mates you live in East Dulwich and your middle aged parent mates you live in Peckham.

This way you glean the minimum derived respect by association and so you have to earn it in other ways. Keeps you on your toes.

I am afraid they do. It's a big place. They are confused. But mainly they are spineless.

One thing is true though. Whichever corner they are talking about they are all very positive about their bit of Camberwell.

I say I live in denmark hill rather than camberwell as it gives a clearer indication of where I live. Its not cause I'm embarrased of my postcode. Similarly, if I lived nr Hoopers or the ED end of Bellenden Rd, I would say I lived in ED rather than peckham or camberwell. That's just less confusing for friends cabbies.

As someone said, postcodes perform an administrative function. They don't necesarily give an accurate picture of where someone lives

When I moved here my Mum (lives in the Midlands) told her best friend Aunty Mary (no relation) that I had bought a house "in Dulwich - near the park". Aunty Mary (no relation) said her son , Stu, had just bought a house "in Birmingham - near the tip".

They do things differently up there.

For me the football ground and Sainsbury's and the adventure playground have always been in ED, which makes the traffic lights at the top of DKH sort of the border/customs post: all pretty arbitrary and subjective though I'm the first to admit.

Once I lived in "Dulwich Village Borders"; now I happily own up to "East Dulwich": all without having moved :))

    • Why would mice move? It’s not so much they move as multiply and spread    copy and paste rather than cut and paste  mice can and should be dealt with.  But not easily or with guarantees  i would say most people in se22 reading this have mice. Whether they know it or not

    • If a food outlet has a mouse problem then it's likely to stay there until the outlet runs out of food, unless it's adjacent to other food outlets. Why would the mice move? And mice can be dealt with. If you are prepared to pay for it. Which, with some proprieters, is a very big if. I have no evidence that the problem has reoccured in its new inception, although obviously good owners keep the focus on good hygiene. You win the battle but the war continues.
