I'm fascinated by other peoples obsessions.

The more irrational the better. As a child I would go bonkers if someone opened my crisp packet 'upside down'

( it took me until I was around 40 to get over this )

A friends son won't wear a freshly ironed shirt unless he scrunches the collar up. And my youngest will only eat in a restaurant if he can 'smell' it first. We tested 3 Turkish restaurants in Green Lanes before he'd go in. ( he made a great choice btw ) My mother and my younger brother were the same but he's never met either.

They are to be celebrated and embraced, though I do feel for my neighbour who has a whole tapping-mantra he follows before he leaves the house, late or not.

So do we inherit these obsessive quirks through our DNA or are they learnt behaviors.

I'm all ears, so share your rituals-quirks-obsessions with me.

Mirrors on sticks are for checking that something under the bed isn't drooling. Everyone knows that.

"Dear Deirdre"

"I have a mate with a problem"....yes, yes. So you don't like egg yolks.

I enjoyed reading that book too HAL but I'm afraid you're not five pounds richer.

Upside down crisps thing was dealt with quite easily.

I gave up crisps.

This thread has reminded me of when my son was a child. He saw a film where a lift tore away from its cables and plunged to the bottom of the shaft. We went through several years thereafter when he just refused to ride in lifts.

I definitely used to avoid the Elephant and Castle underground station I can tell you!

My utterly uncaring Mother

She was the opening the crisps upside-down culprit

And she would buy me a mivi lolly to make me scream.

I hate ice cream lollies to this day.

One of my great-aunts had to roll an orange or apple under her bed every single night to check that it came out the other side - to make sure that nobody was hiding under there.

I can't sleep in a room with a ticking watch or clock - can pick up the faintest noise and must find and remove it. Probably leaves hotel staff and B and B owners perplexed when they find the room alarm clock wrapped up in several towels in the bathroom.

    • Which is exactly why Rayner had to go - don't be the sleaze attack dog and then not keep your own house in order - the really shocking fact is she didn't go the moment this came to light because she knew what advice, and the advice to seek proper tax expertise that was given to her in writing by the very people she was trying to throw under the bus - she clearly thought she might be able to spin her way out of it. When you look at the facts, the advice she was given and when and her behaviour in the last few days it has been scandalous and just shows the contempt for the public intelligence some politicians have. Interesting to see a very unscientific vox pop on BBC News last night but a lot of her own constituents seem to want rid of her as well and to be honest if you have to lose your cabinet role for this breach of the rules then you should probably lose your seat too. That is the hypocrisy here and why a lot of people don't like politicians because they're all the same.
    • Hi all, I’m after a stereo amp in working condition. Not necessarily anything fancy, as long as it works. Thanks
    • You are missing my point, there are a few here who are rabidly anti Labour.  And have lost sight of the many scandals associated with their party.  I've not made excuses for Rayner, rather I am inferring that it is hypocritical to go on about one of the major parties whilst ignoring your own dirty washing.   You are not making sense.  I expect half the country likes a drink and a sizeable number likes a vape.  What is your point?
    • If you read the article posted above, it is all very carefully worded. However I've found this: https://uknip.co.uk/news/uk/uk-news/peckham-rye-park-attack-man-seriously-injured-august-2025/
