I'd just like to say a big thank you to the 100+ "yoofs" that made their way down Forest Hill Road towards Peckham Rye from The Rose (Forest Hill Tavern)between 2:45am and 3:15am this morning. There was no shouting, screaming or swearing from these well lubricated revellers. There were no car doors banging shut and no car horns going off and I wasn't woken from a deep sleep.

And of course a big thank you to The Rose itself for ensuring their clientele conducted themselves properly on leaving the premises. Oh, by the way - can anyone tell me when the pub secured a late licence till 3am on a Friday?

This isn't the first time there's been a bit of noise in the street at kicking-out time, but previously this was around midnight, not in the wee small hours. Never happened when it was the FHT......

No, of course it didn't

the world is going to hell in a hand cart etc etc

Not that I don't have some sympathy with late noise etc but unless it's a regular occurrence at the Rose, writing it off as a one-off seems like a better bet than saying "it never happened before"

I certainly can't recollect the FHT being open into the small hours, so probably factually correct saying it hasn't happened before.

Let's hope it is a one-off, as being woken at 2.45 with 30 minutes of shouting and screaming outside your front door isn't much fun. Thanks for the sympathy.

I've just checked the news and can report that the world went to hell in a hand cart some time ago.....

Thanks Rosie, I've just checked the posts from 2008. Apologies to Mr Strafer. I can obviously only comment from my experience since moving here towards the end of 2009. I didn't think the FHT had a licence after 12 midnight, although it looks like they did have a licence until 5am, which seems a bit absurd. I've tried to check the council website for current licence arrangements but the site seems to be down right now.

ibilly99 obviously witnessed last nights events, as he's taken a photo.

Someone has hung themselves...must have found out Waitrose aren't opening a store in ED

Hello All,

On behalf of the ROSE I would like to apologise if anyone was disturbed last night while people left the pub-it was a one-off birthday party-and although people were told to leave quietly it is sometimes not always followed through.

The pub does carry a license 24hour license 7 days a week on entertainment and alcohol- and I will stress that though this is the case it is only ever rare occasions that the ROSE remains open beyond usual pub hours.

The ROSE

you live near a pub, you knew it was there, snd this is what you have to put up with now and again. I don't live near a pub, just like i don;t live on a main road. I made these choices and you have too.

So today go to the Rose and talk to them. Don't suppose you will, too much effort!

Most people bought their homes many years ago when pubs shut at 11.00. 10.30 on Sunday

They should not have to put up with it..

Fox.

Ok report the incident to police. The pub will then have a mark against it which will be considered next time they go before the licensing panel.

Not reporting it or telling the pub owners will change nothing. Take action to stop it, don't just whine about it here

Having just moved across from Goodrich road I was a little surprised to see that The Rose had such a late licence, but fair play to them for apologising. Thanks!!! Hopefully this won't be a weekly event, however there seemed to be more customers outside the pub than actually in it, so not sure how they can control this anyway...

    • I never said I thought it was targeted or deliberate. There also has never been a “stand off” or confrontation, we’ve spoken to them in a friendly manner about it. Our experience is they don’t seem to care. That’s the frustrating thing for us, if someone politely raises a concern at least take a second to reflect. Treat others how you would want to be treated.  I don’t want them to lose their job, far from it. But considering it could cost me a days work to fix any damage, I’m within my right to try prevent it.
    • The SE22 Evri delivery family are lovely, and always say hello wherever we spot them in the area. We gave them a box of chocolates during Covid as they were working their socks off at Christmas
    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
