Further to all your comments about me and Reggie being under dub house arrest, I had a mild vision of all of you lining the pavements of lordship lane, called to the afternoon prayer of dub, not concerned with the state of your teeth (although I do recommend the dentist near the dry cleaners, the man's an artist,) or with the latest shoes in Pied whatshername shop or wondering whether its right to buy a copy of Big Issue from the rosy faced east european woman outside the CoOp,

and instead is brought together by being together above our needs for things, above even our needs for our own families, taking joy as a real community, our community, east dulwich where we are all for one and one for all. Shalom.

I'm forced to listen and pay to all the Olympics shite and distruption that is coming our way -Sly and Reggie on the other hand are unsubsidised , local characters and I have yet to come across one of their al -fresco performances. When I do I will smile , wiggle in a self conscious way and take delight in the diversity of the area. At the moment I am forced to listen to a shite singing bird that's looking for a shag from 4-30 every morning. Where are the local cats when you need them.

There are many undoubtedly generous souls such as yourself ibilly, who uphold your conviction that community spirit is about indulging the pecadillos of local characters.

There are others who believe that community spirit would best be demonstrated by having the generosity not to shove your shite taste in music down other people's throats and then whinging like teenager when you can't ambush somebody else's local community event to do so.

I can see and understand both points of view - but only one of them involves not forcing yourself on other people.

I presume your own perspective stems from the conviction that you want to stick it to people you dont like? ;-)

    • I'd get rid of duty free shopping.  Nothing to do with tourist tax but something I hate.  All that glitz as you try to get through to Wetherspoons in the departure lounge.  No great savings over on line or even at times supermarkets, and the hypocrisy of selling cheap cancer sticks. Ok back to tourist tax
    • If anyone is thinking of traveling a bit more and would like to supplement their trip by picking up a few family heirlooms from various ailing maiden aunts of mine, please drop me a private message. I'm particularly interested in anyone who is considering Colombia & Bolivia, The Golden Triangle region of South East Asia, Andalusia & North Africa or Rotterdam. And Liverpool.
    • Wow I had no idea they give you 5% in perfume for your accommodation. You're right, I need to travel more.
    • Do none of you go abroad.  Tourist taxes are really common in continental Europe and do vary a lot city by city. They are collected by the hotels/rental apartments. They are usually a  tiny part of your holiday costs.  In Narbonne recently we paid €1.30 per person per night.  The next town we went to charge 80 cents per person per night. By comparison Cologne is 5% of your accomodation.
