They are still doing bloods and long may they continue to do so. The hospital provides a vital local service, especially for the elderly and infirm. Results depend on lab tests necessary but the technician can normally tell you sort of time to expect.
First thing in the morning tends to be very busy. Obviously there are those hoping to pop in quickly before going to work but there are many who need to have their blood taken, i.e. for cholesterol levels, after a period of not eating, say from 10 o'clock the previous evening. Not even a cup of coffee (or tea) is allowed! So as one of those desperate for a caffeine fix first thing in the morning, I go there first thing in the morning so I don't have to wait too long for that wonderful first cup of coffee and I guess I'm not the only one. And yes long may the blood test service at East Dulwich Hospital remain.

Interesting. I know guidelines have changed for those taking statins and annual blood tests for cholesterol are no longer required but my doctor tells me tests for liver/kidney function are still required. I'm due a blood test and the form I got from my doctor requests a lipid test (cholesterol) as well as liver/kidney tests. Will have to check if in fact there is a need to starve, I really would rather not! In the meantime I came across this on the NHS website: http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1018.aspx?CategoryID=69

I have diabetes and have to do fasting blood tests. I used to go to Dulwich Hospital in the morning but after waiting 3 hours one day and informing my GP about this, I now have the fasting ones done at my GP surgery. As a non insulin dependent diabetic - it was felt too dangerous for my health to not have anything to eat for 15 hours (You cannot eat after 8 pm or drink after 10 pm except for water and medication) Since I work in Kings, I go for an ordinary blood test around 3 or 4 pm as less busy then. Last time got seen in 10 mins.

I did a blood test a few months back which included cholesterol and I was told no need to fast for that, but perhaps not all cholesterol tests are equal.
