Irish festival! It?s always been dreadful, all the worst things from Ireland. Why can?t we have a Scottish festival? This is blatant racism disguised as pseudo culture. What have the Irish given us? Potatoes, Guinness and terror, Catholicism, Paisley. Look at Scotland by comparison; TV, golf, haggis, great music from the likes of Shooglenifty & Pipe dreams, the Panama canal, the telephone & Celticism and last but not least caber tossing. Scotland the brave any day.
If 52k is right, that's a staggering waste of cash for a rather ropey festival. If the 'offer' is good enough, you work hard for sponsorship, charge stallholders and get good volunteers on board, you can do a pretty good festival with a modest subsidy or with no subsidy at all. I bet the Peckham Rye Garden f?te the Friends run in September gets by on very little.

How did Bell steal the telephone from the Italians?? Bell was in a race with Edison and hadn?t anything other than an idea for the telephone and he got to the patent office first.

The only good thing I remember about the Irish festival is how much it peed off Peter & Frances when they ran the Clockhouse. He admitted to me that he hated the Irish but they spent a lot of money that weekend so he was stuck between a rock & a hard place.

    • Well thanks for enriching the conversation.  Would you chuck Fah - rage in too for his tax avoidance on his property?   I expect it was lead story on Jeremy Vine too.  Doesn't make it a story, just a bit more of BBC tabloid style sensationalism.  There are numerous real news stories in the UK and across the world.  And now, apt for Halloween, you have summoned up the ghost of Louisa. So for the third time, will you now eat humble pie?
