Just to let you know that I had a great burger from GBK this afternoon for lunch and my two lunch mates also agreed that it was delious!

I wouldn't have recommended them before, but after today's meal I think I'll make more of an effort to go there.

Another recommendation, a little out of ED, I'd suggest Grand Union pub in Camberwell.

Whilst I'd agree with you that Hache makes a grea burger, the focus was on best burgers n the area!

Can widen the area to eat a few more good recommendations?

Clapham isn't really much closer than central London (and harder to get to on public transport).

I would describe "the area" as East Dulwich and the immediately adjoining areas (West Dulwich, Dulwich Village, Peckham Rye, Nunhead, Forest Hill, Honor Oak, Herne Hill, Camberwell/Denmark Hill).

I do like a fresh "Whopper" in me every now & then

Oh god a double ( with ensuing brick-in-the-stomach effect is at times unbeatable ) is even better

But it's got to be hot off the grill and unwrapped a soon as it hits my hand, that way the bun is still crisp/toasted

Onions, mayo, cheese & charred beef, with tomato & lettuce, dill pickle mustard and ketchup

Sesame seeds stuck in the teeth

And that paper on the outside.....

*lays down*

it seems a similar question was featured on the telegraph website today, and while it's hardly the most revealing piece, it just so happens that two mentioned here are worthy of a mention

Well there's a thing - just come back from Draft House where my OH had the 'Smoke' Burger complete with chipotle mayo (Monday night is 'Hamburger Night' when you get a burger special of your choice and a pint of DH Light Lager for ?9.75 - incredibly good value).

I could have done with more chipotle but it has to be said the burger was moist, smoky and delicious with a proper bun (the kind that is made in the same way you make a bagel so it doesn't disintegrate when it gets steamy) and EITHER chips or fries (good point). A very good local burger imho.

titch juicy - Lucky Chip are opening a place in Soho called Slider Bar.

And MeatMarket opens soon in Covent Garden. Same people behind Meatliquor but the venue style is more that of fast food joint rather than restaurant.

There's a new app called burgerapp which is released tomorrow, I think - all about where to go for good burgers in London.

PS god knows why but a good burger is just fab. Deffo to do with the cheese, bun, burger combo. And gherkin. But never, ever bacon on top.

A good Meatliquor burger tastes like you imagine the very first McD's burgers tasted like back in the 50s - and you suddenly realise why people thought it was such an amazing food item that you wanted to keep eating them.

Sadly, billions and billions served later, it was watered down to the facsimile of a proper burger, McD's sell now.

It's the buns I don't like in McD's though. You need

i had it in my head that meatmarket had opened already. Looking forward to giving it a go. Be interesting to see how it's done, cos i love the gothic, deep south feel of meatliquor.

Doesn't the Bishop do Burger Nights on Mondays? Don't think they include chips though so a much better deal at Draft House. Nuns Head pub also does Burger Monday nights and include chips.

Thanks so much for the lovely feedback...we are v proud of our Hamburger Specials and just a quite word also for the Yolk (sister to the Smoke & Poke - an 80z char-grilled burger w/ a flat fried egg and glazed Hollandaise) We do (or at least we are supposed to) include fries or chips with our Hamburger Monday specials. Did you not get them??

What do you mean - either chips or fries? They are the same thing.

    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
