Not found anywhere down here that stocks the delights of a Scottish chippie Gimme. I'm heading up the road tomorrow and on top of my to do list is a black pudding supper.

He's a lovely lovely man and he once gave us a free pie because we had ordered one fish between us and he must have thought we were paupers (not far off the truth).

Sorry to say I'm not too fond of his chips though (soggy) - maybe I've just been there at the wrong times.

Does this affect the chips then?

I thought the thread was entitled 'Friendly North Cross Road chip shop man' rather than 'Great chips on North Cross Road'. And call me controversial, but I don't always find a desire to spread global jewish conspiracy theories conducive to friendship. Particularly if you're jewish.

He does them extra crispy if you ask. Yes, lovely bloke.

I used to feel guilty for hardly ever buying any chips from there but yes, the friendly waves from the guys in Emily's were part of what I loved about living in East Dulwich.

And only now I discover that they will do the chips 'extra crispy' if only I'd asked :)

    • If I was on a table of two accused of eating thirty poppadoms (with pickles and chutneys) on top of curries and sides, I think I'd be inclined to say 'Yep, that was us' and ask the waiter to write off the entire bill. That is a truly heroic feat and should be recognised as such, even if you didn't actually do it.
