I do Otta.

It has been better and we're missing our form strikers, but overall we (in this I mean Spain, not we England) have the greatest quality and that midfield is still the best.

If Other teams had been playing to their potential, particularly German, then I'd happily give them the honour, but everyone has been patchy.

Russia lokoed great and bombed out.

Portugal impressed last night but were insipid before that.

"If Other teams had been playing to their potential,"

But that's just it, Spain haven't. They were shocking last night, and against Ireland they weren't that special. Don't get me wrong, they could be amazing in their next game, but so far this tournament, I think Germany have looked best.

And England of course... :-S

Well I've been touting Germany since the start, it's just they haven't loked all that world beating either.

It's been a fabulous tournament so far but i think because of the lack of a really strong team rather than inspite of it.

The real action begins in the knockouts anyway, but I really do think it's anyone's.

Beside's it's strangely reassuring having Spain threatening to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and being generally less than the sum of their parts, like order in the universe has been restored.

As I said before, the goals conceded were the result of poor marking and poor defensive blocking, AM. And at least England have points unlike Ireland in Euro2012.

I'd like to see Spain v Portugal in the semi finals with Nelson Oliveira with a start. This guy can play.

They were the result of free kicks given away by careless/dirty tackles!

My point UDT is that this defensive barrier you think will help England so much has not been much good so far. How this becomes an England v Ireland thing in your mind I've no idea.

I've no idea how you think I'm comparing Ireland to England. I do think, I don't think you do before you write.

Regardless of whether the ball crossed over the line or not, the referee should have blown for offside earlier on. While Ukraine had a strong case for a goal, England had an equally strong case for offside. The two poor decisions together cancelled themselves out.

At last, a world class performance from Gerrard in an England shirt, he was immense last night.

Rooney obviously needed last night's game, and hopefully he'll be a lot sharper for the Italy game.

I'm wondering as we lack creativity in midfield whether Rooney should drop back and play in 'the hole' against the Italians. Playing them instead of Spain gives us a better chance of reaching the semis, but they are still a step up in class and pedigree, and if we show some of the sloppiness of last night's performance, they'll punish us...

    • It was my understanding that Jeremy Corbyn was embarrassed by his brother and had distanced himself from his brother's views. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Why on earth should "the overall view of that family inform Jeremy's response to the pandemic"? What exactly are you basing that assumption on?
    • I guess it's best to do what most Brits do these days, keep your head down and say nothing! although that's probably why this country is in the mess it is today!  😞
    • @Dulwichway Absolutely - I'm in no way trying to say that what happened was life-changing. I've encountered way worse situations and think of myself as pretty tough, which is why I took them on and got pelted. I suppose I'm just taken aback because the park always seemed so safe. But the stats I've just posted contradict that.   I suppose the one of the points of this thread is to point out that they weren't just numpty youths - I'd bet money on some of them being involved in more serious criminality. And to tell others to be vigilant.
    • Still, I guess it could be a lot worse than water being thrown at you by these numpty youths during these warmer times? thankfully it wasn't the more dangerous mugging type youths that crossed your path waving knifes and guns in your face!  just a thought? hopefully these muppets will get sorted by plod soon, but don't hold your breath.
