I think the current Graun (I only read the fashion pages) position on Assange is that he's a dissembling, self-obsessed, anti-semite who should answer his rape charge. They've had a big falling out and all.

If Andy is found guilty it'll be another example of "the help" taking the hit. Just as the Spad "Snowy" Smith did for Tintin.

Right, kids?

Nettie - IMO Cameron's judgement has been pretty much proven terrible as some of his critics said before, he doesn't need anything stuck on him as much as that'd have you wetting your pants.

And if you want to be tribal...Now, War crimes THAT is something that should be stuck on a recent PM and his Head of Communications (and Cambell's downright hypocracy and faux moral outrage in front of Leverson did really make me want to puke) There's two people RIGHT THERE who have done more harm to politics in this country than Cameron has yet had a chance to...bet you weren't banging on aboiut nailing them? They're maggots, Cameron's just a lightweight who seems to be getting worse.

A lot of people "gunning" for coulson and hunt will also have spent much of the last 10 years gunning for Blair. A lot of people hate the stench of corruption regardless of which house it stems from. The liberals on here have largely spent the existence of the forum hating Blair. There is no liberal conspiracy to hate "that" lot and defend "the other" lot

It's one thing to berate tribalism, but very hard to unite when some people appear to be so bent on divisiveness

I have seen numerous post on here and facebook from several (not from your good self I hasten to add) berating anyone who voted Liberal Democrat in the last election whilst I presume many of those beraters voted for a party that in its last two terms rode roughshod over our democracy; introduced a horrible sort of 'presidentism'..withoiut the checks and balances of the US; took media manipulation and spin to a new level including lying to get us into a dodgy war that has cost 100,000s of lives; made changes to our civil rights that had stood for years; etc etc etc...and yet, and yet. "anyone who vpted liberal democrat should take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror"...makes me laugh

The tories communication is so poor that it's almost refreshing :))

    • Hey - I’ve got a spare adult ticket if you want it?
    • Not sure what you mean by "involved with firework enjoyment"? I'm all for others enjoying themselves, and I like fireworks, but if they were limited to public displays then people could still enjoy them? Having said that, I see that tickets for the London New Year fireworks start at £20 (Dawson's Heights it is,  then!) The fireworks in Brockwell Park used to be free. I don't know why those don't happen any more?
    • Really interesting discussion here. It's difficult to respect the views of people who support Farage, Trump, Musk etc. Why should we, when their views are deplorable. But then that exact 'deplorable' label, as we know, is counterproductive and drives people to double down / switch off to more progressive views. How do you actually help change minds? We're currently spiralling into dark places culturally and politically imo. The amount of open racism, even amongst front line politicians here and in the US is astounding to me. Feels like we're going backwards. The influence of social media and the tech billionaires / bros, is a powerful and largely malignant one. There was an enlightening (and frightening) bit of journalism by Sky this week about Musk's influence on British politics. He has a strange obsession with the UK and London in particular (as do many on the US right wing): https://news.sky.com/story/the-x-effect-how-elon-musk-is-boosting-the-british-right-13464487
