If you like a bit of Scandi-drama and missed it on BBC4 The Bridge was brilliant - it's available now on Amazon. As is The Killing which was equally great. We've just bought Borgen to take on holiday with us. I missed Homeland but the box set isn't out until October unfortunately. Nothing will ever beat Mad Men but the new series is amazing.
there was also a series called Invasion, which was cancelled after one series, because it was up against Lost and it's marketing millions I suspect, but it was infinitely superior to Lost in every way - better scripted and more tightly plotted. Don't know how easy it would be to get hold of but so worth a look.

Have to 2nd/3rd suggestions for:

- Game of Thrones

- True Blood

- The Wire

- Glee

- Band of Brothers

- The Killing

Also:

- The Office (American version) is sooo good - especially from the second series onwards

- Inbetweeners (might be able to catch on 4oD to see if you like it)

- Misfits (ditto)

second most suggestions given. My top choices are The Killing/The Bridge/The Wire & Mad Men.

Totally agree first series of Prison Break is great, a really original idea, then it all gets ridic.

Also we liked Ashes to AShes when it was on, but had missed Life on mars, so went back and watched all of those (quite often buy series on iTunes), really enjoyed it. Also bought all the series of Waking the Dead which was pretty good.

About to start Breaking Bad...

oh - Quite liked The Hour when it was on, I know it suffered through being compared to Mad Men (unfair on any series!) but did quite enjoy it.

    • Language is a fluid and evolving thing and as it changes the original meaning of words can alter to take on a new true meaning or meanings. Original meaning is not the same as true meaning. Take the word literal which is now used to mean the very opposite of how the word used to be used, irritating for some of us but demonstrates the English language is vibrant and alive and also very subjective. But I must go and make myself a cup of tea now or I will literally die of thirst
    • With the right type of feeder arrangement the access by parakeets, squirrels and rats can be eliminated completely. Likewise, the spread of disease can be minimised. The best method is to hang individual feeders inside a wire  cage that has a 2"x2" mesh on all sides that is mounted above ground. Being above ground it stops slugs and rats getting in. And with mesh on the bottom, the risk of transmitting disease from any droppings is eliminated. Small birds feel safe from predators in three These cages are available online for about £33
    • It is worthwhile noting that the original technical meaning was 'a reduction of 10%', which does not, to my mind, chime at all with 'drastically reduce'. I know that's how it is, I think lazily, often used nowadays but it does allow 'decimate' to be used so loosely that it loses meaning. And it can be confusing to those who know it's original meaning. I think that the fact that decimate and devastate are close homonyms does not help things here.
