Keef
Pixies had some good tunes, but I hate the way people talk about them like they were something amazing... They're also one of those bands that a lot of people (and I don't mean you MP) like because they're the band to like, same as Stoned Roses, and that makes me like them less! atila the gooner
i-Pods i-Phones, and blackberries they seem to be everywhere. Every morning I commute into work and a scary number of passengers seem to depend on these things as if without them thier lives wouldn't be worth living or the world would end!!! LizzygotDizzy
Well I'm off to Canada in a few weeks, will let you know! yay! Can't wait. Was meant to go in April but work commitments etc. meant had to leave it until May. :'( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2386-thngs-that-are-vastly-over-rated/page/7/#findComment-96502 Share on other sites
Keef
I do think it can depend, sometimes overseas travel is a bit naff, but I would love nothing more than to be going back to Australia, or Africa, or India, or many many other places right now!Citizen, I agree RE Catherine Tate. I do think she's very clever, and has made some good characters, but they are all far too reliant on their catchphrases. Whereas the Fast Show used to have characters with catchphrases that would be used to support an otherwise still funny sketch, CT's sketches will more often than not be totally reliant on the delivery of the big catchphrase."What a f**king liberty""How very dare you""Am I bovvered"And so on. citizenED
And also the characters are so downright nasty. Call me a softy but in my comedy, as in my drama, literature and cinema, I like to have some empathy with the characters. Izodia
I don't find his comedy stuff at all funny, but his TV Burp gives a giggle. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2386-thngs-that-are-vastly-over-rated/page/7/#findComment-96570 Share on other sites
Keef
I have never !got" Harry Hill. He's actually doing some gigs at The Hob in Forest Hill on the 1st of May, and another date or 2 I think... Jah Lush
Oh I don't know Harry Hill's alright, just a bit too surreal at times, see also Eddie Izzard. TV Burp by the way, isn't written by him and perhaps is all the more funnier for it. But his delivery and performance on the show is very good. SeanMacGabhann
Agree with the Harry Hill - several comedy nights have been ruined by the announcement "and now a special surprise guest...."Mighty Boosh - I would have once agree but now I LOVE them. Cassius
The Pixies were never very good live but I do think Doolittle is an amazing album. citizenED
But is the Mighty Boosh over-rated in the first place? Don't know of many people who rate it - well Sean and Brendan claim to, but then....exactly. Harry Hill has been lauded all over and I've never found him very funny. Nevetheless I find him likable. Unlike Catherine Tate. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2386-thngs-that-are-vastly-over-rated/page/7/#findComment-96615 Share on other sites
Brendan
Re. The Pixies. As a teenager I got my hands on Trompe le Monde just after it was released. I had never heard anything like it. Within a week I had their entire back catalogue and became a bit obsessed with the band. So much so that I had to ration myself to only listen to 1 Pixies album a day. In my opinion they were the most innovative of the underground American ?alternative? bands of the late 80s early 90s before the whole thing exploded into the monster that was Grunge. You probably experienced it differently here as the whole thing was kinda overshadowed by Brit-pop. Or at least that is the impression I get. Funnily I never liked the Stone Roses. I always thought they were overrated and I couldn?t see the point of 5 minute long intros. Over the last few months though there has been a ?best of? album on my ipod and I have actually started to get into them.
