The 'law changes' are the very welcome ones that try to stop them from ruining vulnerable people's finances and lives with their fixed odds betting terminals. Good riddance, I say.

If there were to be a Waitrose on either of those sites, surely it would on the 'Little Waitrose' model, though as ed_pete points out, still very handy for having John Lewis stuff delivered locally for free.

No need to wait for Waitrose for that - John Lewis are trialling using the Co-Op for click and collect.

I think they may prefer a Harrods food hall. Waitrose is too middle class for the upper class dwellers of Dulwich Village.

Had a feeling this would be the case. The one on Lordship Lane looks too small for even a 'small' Waitrose.

In the 1980s when my kids were small I used to knit for a designer who supplied Harvey Nicks. They had a 150% mark up on the goods she sold them. One day I decided to calculate my rate of hourly pay....2p an hour, yes, 2p per hour.. and I was by no means a slow knitter. In order to make any money the designer- a young Scots girl who lived in a 2 bedroomed flat in Brixton, had to purchase the wool in such bulk that it filled an entire room.

The Camberwell coop is also doing this now. Exciting times, being 10 mins walk away from a JLP collection point rather than a 20 min bus ride away!

    • Many years ago, I actually cooked a meal for all who wanted to come ….. In this day and age, with social media being in our faces..yes, I don’t live in ED, but visit,  why doesn’t Christian spirit happen? I would think, few people even know their neighbours…. Life, busy etc. We all live in one world..human kindness is all around..In a city, people are scared to make human contact, especially when who knows what might happen. Can clearly remember, coming back in summer with friends,  side door had been jimmied.. nothing was taken from inside.. When I lived in ED and when I visit, it is Me who starts a conversation.. never know where that might lead, or in deed where it might take one.. Notice my post, in general did not have response I was hoping for .. that is fine.. So, Will start again, and ask personally.how can I thank or make a donation to keep forum going.. We should be proud, to have a forum like this..

    • Apparently there was a motorcade on Lordship lane about 40 mins ago. Did anyone see it? Two blacked out 4X4, with police convoy. I'm intrigued...
