Not Lordship Lane, but a shortish walk from it, the little supermarket type shop in Bellenden Road on the left as you head towards Peckham has a great range of really fresh fruit, veg and herbs outside, at very reasonable prices.

I got a load there after I had stocked up at Gather (cooking a load of stuff to freeze).

Hoots mon you need more sleep

Although a hybrid of both could work, maybe called "stuff it up your spooran" or something equally mad by playing on words

Will they sell bagpipes as well as kilts .. I could see a whole new musical trend for the lovely little darlings of Dulwich College there...

Well about ten minutes' walk, I'd have said, from the Goose Green end of Lordship Lane. That's shortish.

I don't understand the rest of your post. I'm not trying to drum up trade for the shop because they need more people to go there. I'm suggesting they have a great selection of good quality and reasonably priced fruit and veg, or at least they have had whenever I go past.

I bought a load there last week.

Basically, If I'm out buying Vegetables.. Potatoes, Onions , and other Veg. along with anything

else i need to buy, I do not want to Lug them all the way from Bellenden Road.

Shopping in Sainsbury's The P13 stops outside and stops less that 200 yards from my house.

180 steps in fact..

I do now have a shopping trolley which holds more than I can carry in shopping bags.

Therefore a good Greengrocer on Lordship Lane would be greatly appreciated.

Foxy..

I brought all my stuff back in a shopping trolley. Yes it was quite heavy but that was mainly with stuff from Gather in my own glass jars.

But I grow my own potatoes etc so less to buy and less to carry.

All good exercise, whatever!

As regards Lordship Lane, it would be very boring if it sold everything. There wouldn't be much reason to go to different places then!

I know I?m just messing. I just got back from Madrid. I love popping into a bar for a pint and a bit of tapas. Got tapas on the brain. Will try Maria?s Tortilla soon. 💃🏽

Where in East Dulwich is there space to open such a store.

Perhaps a Very Liddle Lidl..

I know Sue, but imagine when Burns night came along and you could nip out to your local kilt shop, so avoiding a trip to Scotland.

Plus you could pick up a stuffed badger or stoat while you were at it.

Really Seabag, you do stretch the realms of possibility here, Badgers, Weasels and Stoats aren't a native Dulwich species

Stuffed Dulwich Foxes , Squirrels and Unicorns yes, but the rest are simply from your imagination 🤔

Crikey, that's a very convincing argument, you've got me thinking now :))

Maybe you could start a petition?

Bloody hell, I thought you were joking, but ....

https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/lidl-southwark-bermondsey-peckham-locations/

I used to trek down to the Lidl in Peckham, but it got too much like a trip to Ikea. Too many impulse buys because things are so cheap.

I still have cornichons in honey (why?!) in my cupboard from a Lidl visit several years ago :))

No it doesn't, It far too small.

American Diners are huge manic places with waiters flying around the place,

American Diners are huge manic places with waiters flying around the place

I don't think this is necessarily so - American Diners are most marked by (a) having counter service with long counters and table service (b) opening at breakfast (served American style) and continuing to serve throughout the day into the evening © serving both full meals and snacks (such as coffee and pie). Look at the diners in e.g. Pulp Fiction or Goodfellas, (without the gunfire!) - or Twin Peaks - or almost any American film - no manic waiters rushing around (although there is waitress service) - you are I think confusing the large scale burger bars and taco joints like Planet Hollywood with the traditional Edward Hopper diner https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nighthawks_(painting)#/media/File:Nighthawks_by_Edward_Hopper_1942.jpg

I was really talking about the food offering which is I seem to remember is burgers, fried chicken, hot dogs, nachos, shakes, etc.

Clearly it doesn't have that American diner vibe and aesthetic, but it's hard to do that without becoming some sort of tacky pastiche.

    • Many thanks to the woman who looked after our old deaf Miniature Schnauzer who got separated from us in the park this morning. And thank you to the man who alerted us . My husband is very relieved and grateful. If any one knows who these people are please say thank you as he didn't get their names.
    • why do we think we have the right for the elected local council to be transparent?
    • Granted Shoreditch is still London, but given that the council & organisers main argument for the festival is that it is a local event, for local people (to use your metaphor), there's surprisingly little to back this up. As Blah Blah informatively points out, this is now just a commercial venture with no local connection. Our park is regarded by them as an asset that they've paid to use & abuse. There's never been any details provided of where the attendees are from, but it's still trotted out as a benefit to the local community.  There's never been any details provided of any increase in sales for local businesses, but it's still trotted out as a benefit to the local community.  There's promises of "opportunities" for local people & traders to work at the festival, but, again, no figures to back this up. And lastly, the fee for the whole thing goes 100% to running the Events dept, and the dozens of free events that no-one seems able to identify, and, yes, you guessed it - no details provided for by the council. So again, no tangible benefit for the residents of the area.
