One of those rare glimpses of East Dulwich's past is visible in the building/shops being done up in the strip opposite BBC. You can make out the following sign above the shop fronts:

ARSENA CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

Anyone know its history? ARSENA?

And any news on what this never-ending rebuild is going to become?

Sean big M motors who had the shop down stairs had water coming in from up stairs so they were going to move to the empty part next to them referb the old shop and let it out, but when costs came in to it it was desided to do up the top as flats and rent the down stairs part but this was a few months ago.

Jimbo, thanks it's brought back very fond memories of my mum & dad collecting Green Shield Stamps at that very Co-op.

    • Quote "it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me." Doesn't say clearly that it tried to bite you , but instead implies that you had the impression, right or wrong that it wanted to nip you.  unless you are clear others will read it how you write it.  As for being a jobsworth, what a quaint old expression, haven't heard that for a long while.
    • Crook locks can be sawn through, or the steering wheel to which it is attached, I know to my own cost. The safest additional security measure is what's called a ghost immobiliser, which cannot be traced through the car's electronics, meaning it is difficult to bypass. They cost a bomb however.
    • I’ve reported two instances of mobile phone theft to 999 in recent times. On both occasions several police units have arrived very quickly - in one case they found the perpetrator.
    • With all these high-end car thefts, surely there's a case to be made for all new cars to be supplied with a Crook Lock type device and having insurance invalidated if the owner does not have it in place when it is parked.
