To the woman from Dunstans Road who dumped her Dwell furniture packaging in Sylvester Road this afternoon. Dumping rubbish is a very anti-social thing to do. It is also an offence. Not only are you anti-social, you are also very stupid because you left your name and address on the rubbish you dumped. It would be great if you could come and pick your rubbish up and dispose of it responsibly.

I used to live on the junction of Landells and Sylvester in ED's very own mini version of the Flatiron building.

Anyway there are about 30 yards of kerb space that don't have any houses fronting on to the street and it was amazing how many people just thought it was the best place to dump all kinds of outsize rubbish. Almost nonchalantly.

    • Considering the private revision study that my children undertook, perhaps 15 to 20 years ago in that library it seems a shame they have timed the refurbishment so it won't be open at this crucial time for children. But hey, so long as it's greener...
    • Enforcement costs money which I doubt the fines actually pay for. Presumably it hasn't been a priority.

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
