That wasnt in the Rookerj by any chance MP?;-)

I got regularly caned in both senses of the word at school. The one was normally a direct result of the other.

We got hit with all sorts of stuff. A proper cane across the arse if you were being formally disciplined (anything up to 6 times. They weren?t allowed to hit you more than that in one go) but there were various other ad hoc beatings dished out. The standard was a ruler across the palm but the industrial arts teacher regularly made liberal with the old 2 by 4 and we had a particularly nasty PT teacher who favoured a cricket bat.

I read that as "fondly" bits :-$

He he, indeed. It's a chain of 'posher' coffee shops mostly outside the red light district.

Fell for one of the girls there a week before I had to return to the UK having been depressingly single the whole blimmin year. Sod's law!!!

Ha ha, you don't know how close you are to the truth Brendan.

I've still got scars on my legs from all the bicycles I fell over, and I was so bleary after 6 months that my boss suggested I go on holiday ... immediately!!

That's the one Rolo happy haze days

If i remember rightly, the toliets are up those stairs and to the left of the first picture you have the raised area facing the bar with a huge ornate, Indian wedding seat. But thats only if I remember rightly of course:))

Spot on.

I remember sitting on those seats just to the left with an aussie friend who'd been travelling around the world for 6 months with the usual drug related pitfalls and fears that possession might entail, and she was finding the whole openness htere very hard to get her head around.

By the time we were really battered a couple of officers wandered in to chat to the staff and check all was well, and had the conversation right in front of us. This was all too much for Lisa, who stood up (just), offered her wrists together to be handcuffed and said too loudly in that classic aussie drawl:

"Arrest me officer, I've been a baaaaaaaad girl"

I know things are funnier when you're stoned, but I honestly didn't stop crying for about an hour!!

    • Eh? That wasn't "my quote"! If you look at your post above,it is clearly a quote by Rockets!
    • Exactly what I said, that Corbyn's group of univeristy politics far-left back benchers would have been a disaster during Covid if they had won the election. Here you go:  BBC News - Ex-union boss McCluskey took private jet flights arranged by building firm, report finds https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp3kgg55410o The 2019 result was considered one of the worst in living memory for Labour, not only for big swing of seats away from them but because they lost a large number of the Red-wall seats- generational Labour seats. Why? Because as Alan Johnson put it so succinctly: "Corbyn couldn't lead the working class out of a paper bag"! https://youtu.be/JikhuJjM1VM?si=oHhP6rTq4hqvYyBC
    • Agreed and in the meantime its "joe public" who has to pay through higher prices. We're talking all over the shop from food to insurance and everything in between.  And to add insult to injury they "hurt " their own voters/supporters through the actions they have taken. Sadly it gets to a stage where you start thinking about leaving London and even exiting the UK for good, but where to go????? Sad times now and ahead for at least the next 4yrs, hence why Govt and Local Authorities need to cut spending on all but essential services.  An immediate saving, all managerial and executive salaries cannot exceed and frozen at £50K Do away with the Mayor of London, the GLA and all the hanging on organisations, plus do away with borough mayors and the teams that serve them. All added beauracracy that can be dispensed with and will save £££££'s
    • The minimum wage hikes on top of the NICs increases have also caused vast swathes of unemployment.
