Not clearing up after your dog is unpleasant, unsightly and unhygienic.

One dog with an uncaring owner seems to have "the runs" at present and has dumped 5 loads in two days on the corner of Marmora & Scutari.

Please think of your neighbours and, in particular, those walking children and buggies to / from the local schools

I've hosed down the mess and cleared it into the gutter tonight but have failed to spot the offender.

I feel for you and admire you. As a responsible multiple-dog-owner, and hater of poo, I feel your pain. Sadly I think people who think it's ok to let their dogs foul the public walkways, where children walk to school, do not read. (was gonna say 'forums', but think I'll leave it at that).
I've noticed a repeat offender when I walk my child to school. Dog likes to dump a big poo on the grass alongside Goose Green playground, the owner seems to pretend that she hasn't noticed, looks away and chats to other parents. Last week I drew her attention to her dog's mess and she made a half hearted attempt to rummage in her pockets for a bag, though it was obvious that she didn't have one.

If that's the case I apologise for blaming dog owners - however, there remains a problem with the obvious dog crap that is regularly deposited in this area AND not cleared up by dog owners.

Not likely. Fox scat is very, very smelly and usually in small amounts. They also typically use it to mark certain areas. That wouldn't be street corners.

As a vet and fellow dog owner I am shocked and appalled by people not picking up their dog's mess.

It is frankly disgusting to look at and deal with on your shoe but I'd also like to point out the health risks.

One of the most worrying diseases we can catch from dog faeces is Toxocara.

This is a parasite that has been found in up to 33% of dogs.

The eggs can survive under the right conditions FOR YEARS.

One study found viable worm eggs in 66% of London parks.

This parasite can cause blindness and meningitis in children and the immunocompromised (people with HIV and those undergoing chemotherapy).

I imagine that the people that are too lazy to pick up their dog's mess are also too lazy to have their dog regularly dewormed so the risk is even higher.

    • I am keeping my fingers crossed the next few days are not so loud. I honestly think it is the private, back garden displays that are most problematic as, in general, there is no way of knowing when and where they might happen. For those letting off a few bangers in the garden I get it is tempting to think what's the harm in a few minutes of 'fun', but it is the absolute randomness of sudden bangs that can do irreparable damage to people and animals. With organised events that are well advertised there is some forewarning at least, and the hope is that organisers of such events can be persuaded to adopt and make a virtue of using only low noise displays in future.
    • There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda and far more across their briefs than any minister I've seen in years. The consensus was that Labour are so unpopular and untrusted by the electorate already, as are the Conservatives, that breaking the manifesto pledge on income tax wouldn't drive their approval ratings any lower, so they should, and I quote, 'Roll The Dice', hope for the best and see where we are in a couple of years time. As a strategy, i don't know whether I find that quite worrying or just an honest appraisal of what most governments actually do in practice.
    • They are a third of the way through their term Earl. It's no good blaming other people anymore. They only have three years left to fix what is now their own mess. And its not just lies in the manifesto. There were lies at the last budget too, when they said that was it, they weren't coming back for more tax and more borrowing. They'd already blamed the increase in NIC taxes on what they claimed was a thorough investigation. They either knew everything then or they lied about that too .   They need to stop lying and start behaving. If they don't the next government won't be theirs, it will be led by Nigel Farage.  They have to turn it round rapidly. Blaming other people, telling lies and breaking promises isn't going to cut it any more.
