Log delivery in ED

We are in a smokeless zone. So if you plan to burn in an open fire (as your message suggests), what you ?can? burn is smokeless fuels only.

If you have a wood burner you ?can? burn approved fuels for that burner, usually including logs.

In terms of what you ?should? burn though. Lifestyle burning is hugely polluting, releases particulate matter in high concentrations for your family and your neighbours and pm2.5 pollutants have been linked to dementia, stroke, heart disease as well as asthma and lung cancers.

Gas fires are way less polluting, better still central heating and good insulation.

I use Mark. He does regular deliveries to the area from his place in Suffolk. Six bags of quality seasoned wood and a bag of kindling for ?40.00. His number is 07957226470. I'd ignore the previous feeds if I were you. Their 'hot air' is a far worse pollutant. They've probably just turned off their electric blankets after spending the day sitting next to an oil filled plug in radiator. Enjoy your fire!!

Electric Blankets, Oil filled radiators are not illegal and you will not be fined for using them.

Burning Logs creates Smoke and Directly pollutes our air and causes breathing problem in young children and the elderly.

I do not have an Electric Blanket.. I have a small Oil filled rad (In my bedroom)

for emergencies when my Central Heating breaks down which I have use 2 - 3 times in the past 4 years or so.

Ignoring the rudeness of your message (and again, this forum would be better if people just imagined they were speaking to people face to face, rather than hiding behind anonymity)?

I am however keen to understand why you would advise people to ignore the comments. Is it that

a) you don't believe that burning logs produces higher amounts of PM2.5 matter per hour than multiple diesel HGVs or cars?

b)You believe this (on the basis that its factually true) but you don't believe any of the scientific studies showing how particulate matter is some of the most harmful pollutants for our health, penetrating deep into our tissue and even crossing into unborn children?

c) you just think that there are so many pollutants that a bit more doesn't matter - despite studies showing that more than 30% of pm2.5 pollution could be attributed to solid fuel burning, which is for most people in urban areas, not a necessity but a lifestyle choice?

I honestly believe that people are completly uninformed about the horrific pollution caused to them and their families by woodburners. Like diesel cars, its another goverment pushed scandal. I also think that once people hear it they become defensive and antagonistic as they don't want to believe they could cause harm. So just really trying to work out where on that spectrum you fall?

Hurrah - first post by DF that has actually made me laugh. In a good way.

Just again - kiln dried logs still produce higher amounts of pollutants per hour from your woodburner than many HGVs and diesel cars parked outside pointing their exhausts into your home.

But as a response to the OP - you could google 'kiln dried logs' - or you could google effects of woodburning improve the health of your neighbourhood immeasurably by not doing it.

Accepting that we shouldn't be burning wood seems to be upsetting, but really is something we need to get over quickly in East Dulwich.

    • Once again. Worth repeating - it’s not that Labour can’t  or shouldn’t be criticised  but the reaction to everything being “is this the end for starmer?” Is such a symptom of a broken countr.
