Have to say, having shopped in all (well most) of the above local supermarkets, on account of having to carefully watch my budget and purse, I have discovered the following:-

1. While people think Lidls is quite cheap, (some stuff is) a lot of their things are quite highly priced, every day things like milk at 1.30 for four pints etc. and quite a few necessary household items are as expensive as Asda and even Sainsburys on occasion, I was quite surprised. Nettos is in fact cheaper by far for buying tinned things like beans at 9p-10p a tin whereas Lidls charge 25p a tin for their bully bargain beans, Nettos in fact taste better too.

2. Morrisons is cheapest for buying fruit and veg and getting value for money there.

3. Asda is great when you have to buy cheap school/ordinary clothes for the kids, but they also have quite a few items of food that are really cheap too. Also Iceland have a great buy one get one free thing going on, good to go shopping with a mate and split the food this way and the costs!

4. I wish I could afford to food shop in M&S! lol! when I win the lottery! Have to say I do the bulk of my shopping at Morrisons but when I'm really skint go to Nettos. Meat shopping done in my local bully bargain butchers where you can get 15lbs chicken legs/breast for something like ?2.99, pork/lamb chops, etc. at very reasonable prices and way cheaper than any of the supermarkets.

After a month without my car, schlepping up and down LL feeing very worthy buying stuff from different shops I finally got said vehicle and went to Sainsurys today.

Terrible crowds, too busy car park, shocking prices, no bloody aubergines.

Loved it, met two EDFers, had a Starbies skinny Latte, bought all my shopping in one go, no sore hands or shoulder, bloody loved it.

    • I would challenge that. Price is a function of supply and demand - that's what I learnt at school anyway. It doesn't matter what your costs are, if supply increases and demand remains constant, prices (rents) will fall. And vice versa
    • Strange isn’t it…..other European countries s actually come up with solutions to house homeless people, which are pod structure, use of office blocks, etc. homeless are provided with thermals, warm sleeping bag and tent or pop up tent plus tech friendly clothing which means they are warm in extreme conditions. Us in UK? Nothing but chuckinto house of multiple occupation, which is usually not warm and not all have mould, but some do.. live in one room even if you are a family with good only knows what other sort of people…  not referring to ethinicity here but more along the lines of mental health problems, drugs, alcoholics. Single and families all in one property. Or if you are one of the lucky ones, into a hotel you go…   Why don’t we as a nation claw back more money in the form of tax  or avoidance avoidance, off shore accounts or other ways that rich or investors do buck the system….
    • Hello! I’m considering buying the demise for the loft-space above my flat (facing the classic renovate or move scenario for an additional bedroom or 2). Has anyone had recent experience of buying the demise from Southwark? Interested to know how they’re handling the premium/valuation.  thanks!
