StraferJack
Blackfriars Station - WAS a fetid series of tiny corridors with no room for people to move between overground and underground stations. NOW it's a bright, airy station with plenty of room to get about, and 2 extra overground platforms. And it's not even finished. The HOB. WAS a nondescript boozer albeit with a decent pinball table. NOW it's one of the best comedy clubs in London and the boozer is slightly more script. Plus you can order or take in food from anywhere else. BonusGreen & Blue site. WAS a good, if slightly overrated cafe, then a very sorry and sad Italian restaurant before becoming one of the best wine shops and bars around Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24545-places-that-used-to-be-crap-but-are-now-good/#findComment-561606 Share on other sites
El Pibe
Blackfriars, bits of it still a bit claustrophobic and can't wait for the hoardings to come down on the main platforms, but I'm genuinely excited about what it will become. On a similar note Kings Cross is less the hell hole it has always been these days. StraferJack
Claustrophobic? I suppose the northboundplatform was a bit temporary corridor, but it has opened right up this week. And I know what you mean about the hoardingsIt's all golden compared to the temporary pedestrian bridge that was at Denmark Hill tho Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24545-places-that-used-to-be-crap-but-are-now-good/#findComment-561608 Share on other sites
Jeremy
St Pancras is now one of the nicest stations around. And while I've not been in the hotel, the frontage now looks absolutely stunning. And the wider Kings Cross area is smarter and less seedy than it used to be.Locally... Foresters Arms was a complete shithole (I don't care if it had pool tables), The Bishop is a lot better, despite the influx of knobs on the weekends. The Tiger in Camberwell is a massive improvement over the Silver Buckle. Jeremy
The Uplands was pretty bad. When I first came to ED, the Uplands was one of the more "fancy" pubs. It had obvious gastro aspirations, complete with open kitchen, but the food was horrid.
