Peacock Removals - Do not use!!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know our experiences of Peacock Removals (also known under the name of Everest Removals) so that you avoid having the same hideous experience that we did.

Gelu from Peacock removals came around to quote for moving us from East Dulwich. They were the cheapest quote we had and were able to start at 8am which suited us - so we decided to use them.

This the worst decision we ever made. In summary, they turned up 3.5 hours late, did not have a large enough van and had to get another one, then said that we needed to pay 50% extra in cash before we left or 'they would throw our things on the street' and Gelu, the owner of the company, pretty much offered to take my husband on in a fight as he objected to the treatment!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

We used a company called Alexanders who are based in West London but work everywhere.

In fact we've used them three times for different moves and also for storage and I can't recommend them highly enough.

They may not be as cheap as a man with a van but I would rather ensure my items were moved with the care and professionalism that they've shown on each job.

I collect ceramics and noting had a single chip which was wonderful despite my hurried packing due a quick completion date.

Hi Fernyhka,

Your experience sounds a lot like mine, but that wasn't the name of the business at the time. Wouldn't surprise me if they'd changed it though. We ended up calling the police our situation got so bad. And to my shame I never posted on the forum about it because the owner was so aggressive I feared the consequences.

So good on you for warning people. Moving house is stressful enough without this kind of thing.

I'm a legal enforcement officer very interested in information that anyone may have about this man. What he is doing is not new and he has been prosecuted for it in the past http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/archive/2009/03/09/4183476.FOREST_HILL__Removals_and_storage_man_held_customers__possessions_to_ransom/

Let me know your stories, particularly interested in complaints of incidents within the past 12 months. this timescale is procedurally important.

Oh I wish my evidence was within the useful timescale as it definitely sounds like the same person. Heartbreakingly when the police did arrive they accused us of wasting police time, even though this psychotic individual had driven off with half our wordly goods and was refusing to give them back until we paid him.

    • To be fair, a pot of tea for one in a department store is a small pot, and you only get one cup or mug!
    • I know - we have been here lots of times since it first opened,  which is why we were disappointed that it was closed at a time it was supposed to be open, but with no notice to say why! I guess we will just  have to ask the reason at our next visit, but I'm not sure we will risk Saturday lunchtime again unless we find the closure  was an unavoidable one off ....
    • Nope. I don’t have this wrong. I’ve tried to put my point across respectfully, without resorting to personal, angry insults. And all my colleagues agree that the BBC got this right in its condemnation.    All you see is confirmation bias.    If you don’t realise that, then you’re part of the problem.
    • We have always gone during the week at lunch time - great place and good value. Husband has been several times on his own and owner knows his first name. I could not go one time for some reason and she sent him home with some spring rolls (free)
