Boris Johnson's Brexit deal has officially become UK law, paving the way for the country to leave the EU next week.

THE QUEEN has today given the Brexit Bill Royal Assent, finally passing the UK's withdrawal into law.

Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans announced the news this afternoon in the House of Commons.

Replace 'right-wing element' with 'rabid champagne socialist ignorant element' then you will be correct....

Perhaps you would like to explain exactly what you mean by "rabid champagne socialist ignorant element"?

I'm particularly interested in your definition of "ignorant", in this context.

Thanks.

I don't call a third of the electorate or a quarter of the population a majority (silent or otherwise). All the little Englanders have done is set this country up for decades of a bitter divide.

Anyone that doesn't agree with his xenophobic far right outlook basically.

Before we continue, could we make a minor adjustment to the thread title?

?Small minded little England xenophobes vs ultra privileged metropolitan champagne socialists still banging on about the EU referendum 3 1/2 years later?. Ah that?s better, do continue.

Many people who voted for this with such glee will pop their clogs before time.

Thus leaving the generations behind them scratching their heads.

Enjoy your moment.

"drop the pessimism and sign up to moving forward going forward. (or some other phrase)."

incorrect - when people face up to the reality of what this entails, then we can start coming together. As long as leavers continue to live in denial there is no hope. What you call pessimism and doom mongering is reality

Larry Elliot Chief Economics Editor of the Guardian no less has been an ardent Brexiteer well before the referendum. If only the left had embraced change rather than burying their heads in the sand we might have been spared this Johnson shambles of entitlement.

Larry Elliott ?The choice is simple: start putting together a post-Brexit progressive project or have a monster sulk and watch the Tories make the political weather.? That was the only choice for Labour post June 2016. They were told. Let?s hope they finally grasp it this time.

Didn't notice this but it's true.

EU rather miserable about signing the document whilst UK Government thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread is ominous to me.

Everything is going to depend on the trade deal. And we won't really know what kind of Brexit we have until those negotiations are finished. For now, nothing changes. But there are signals already from Downing Street that things like maternity leave and holiday pay are going to go. So the predicted attack on workers protections is definitely coming no matter what kind of trade deal we end up getting.

Sajid is getting confused

Today

"telling business leaders in Davos that he would not seek to move UK regulations away from those in the EU ?for the sake of divergence?."

Last week

?There will not be alignment, we will not be a rule-taker, we will not be in the single market and we will not be in the customs union.?

People seem to be pinning hopes on ?the trade deal?

Boris has ruled out extension - so no trade deal or very bare bones

But even with all the time in the world, uk won?t get a trade deal as good as it has now. It just won?t happen. It doesn?t have the leverage. And other countries won?t have it

This by Ian Dunt is all about trade deals. It may extinguish the hope....

    • Went to a fireworks display maybe 20 years ago at the Crystal Palace, it wasn't bonfire night, can't remember why it was being held, Capital Radio were there. There were people hanging from a crane, classical music, and quiet fireworks,  It was lovely, still dramatic with the colours but no loud bangs. Not sure why this hasn't become the norm.
