I have read the threads re the places that do a good Sunday lunch - Rye Hotel, Nuns Head, Bishop, etc. Strangely I have only ever done Sunday lunch at the Crown & Greyhound and the Star cafe on Peckham Rye (I dont think that they do this anymore), but this Sunday that will change. I have friends with me at the moment, one of whom is Veggie. So, do any of the recommended Sunday lunch venues also do a good Veggie option? Ta.

I think the Sunday veggie lunch at the Nun's Head is good. Although some people might think veggie nut roast is a cop-out I much prefer it to veggie sausages and mash. I am not a pure enough veggie to ask if the gravy is veggie but maybe your friend isn't either. As far as I can remember the Rye Hotel does the veggie sausage option - but again that might suit your friend.

Hope this helps - and if you go elsewhere and it is a success do let us know, I'd love to try somewhere else.

I've only had veggie 'Sunday roasts' at The Bishop and The Herne so far and would recommend both. The Bishop's offering was veggie toad in the hole with the same roasties and veg as the meat Sunday roast and veggie gravy - I think it's nice to be able to eat the same veg etc rather than something totally different like mushroom risotto or wild mushroom pasta... I've only eaten at The Herne once (although it is my new local so will no doubt frequent it more now...) but the veggie option was good - a caramelised onion and lancashire cheese tart served with a rocket salad. Not quite so 'Sunday roast'-like but very good all the same.
I've said this before, but think that the Nun's Head is the best Sunday lunch around especially for veggie options. I'm not convinced that toad in the hole is a great option - doesn't exactly go with yorkshire puddings and as a veggie my common complaint is that when I'm going out with friends who are all tucking into a roast dinner, I don't really want a risotto- I want a 'sunday lunch' too!!! Think that nut loaf is considered to be a bit dated now - but actually goes really well with roast veg and gravy - plus the gravy on the nun's head Sunday lunches is different from the meat ones so am assuming its veggie. Good value too - plus they usually have live jazz on which is a nice touch!

Was this a veggie roast?

Went to the Rye last night and my daughter had the butternut squash risotto and it was enjoyable but about ?9 odd so not a snip. I had bangers and mash with delicious red cabbage very fulfilling neither of us could cope with desert. I asked what they did to the red cabbage as it was better than I make at home, they melt a little sugar in vinegar and add to it, it was excellent.

    • bizarre responses from everyone but Cancerian 🤷🏾‍♀️ As an LL resident surely a perfectly normal enquiry in that one might wish to know who to look out for if lawless/feral kids are wreaking havoc? any distinguishing marks on the perpetrators? presumably the objection is that a physical description might reveal the alleged culprits as non-white? (nothing else makes sense with this bourgeois over-sensitivity). same botched thinking that causes police descriptions of suspects on the loose to omit this info  (top way to protect the public / solve the crime) FYI i'm a mixed-race female and interested in THE TRUTH. hence, i want to protect myself & my family against criminals. so please DESCRIBE the physical appearance of criminals or suspected criminals to help to keep us safe. thankyou.  "underlying agenda... strange" 😂😂😂 strange agenda to wish to be safe in my community. well played 🤯
    • Unless they were wearing school uniform with name tags otherwise children do change their clothes you know.
    • I'd also recommend Silvano for anyone in the area looking to learn automatic, having just passed first time with 5 minors. He's a very patient teacher and ensured I learned how to drive safely above all.
    • You don't need to do the research. I had to know the numbers as a TV buyer. I analysed the potential advertising revenue and Channel Four didn't cover their costs. They had some nice 'Channel Four' signs when someone hit the ropes but, In all honesty, a lot a potential revenue was lost because most old knackers were pissed off because they couldn't perve at Carol Vorderman on 'Countdown'.       Sorry, cross-post. I was replying to Malumbu. Give me a minute, if you will. I listened to the first two sessions (today) on TMS and popped down to the pub for the evening one.   I do miss the days of Peter West, Richie Benaud and Tom Graveney on BBC2.   But, the BBC are at least putting on 'Today At The Test' on at around 7pm instead of after midnight.   And it was on the 10pm news.
