It depends on the school. Southwark schools have not yet adopted the fashionable Singapore maths which many Lewisham schools have. Both systems have benefits. There will be more differentiation in Southwark schools with a progression from concrete methods to number only work with focus on place value by Year 3. Lewisham focuses more on concrete methods and visual representation, but does not have differentiation which can be tricky for children struggling to get to grips with maths. Both provide greater depth challenges which focus on reasoning.

Thanks Soylent Green.

Goodrich uses Singapore Maths. The weekly worksheet differentiates but seems very ?dry? and some children struggle with the amount of work they are given / asked to memorise from very early years. And parents struggle to deliver as the amount of work and expectation of high achievement is just too much and immediately sets up disappointment for parents and child. From a really young age a child from a family that cannot allocate the time and effort to drilling memory is at a disadvantage.

Dulwich Hamlet has no homework at all at the same age.

Anyone else happy or not with the way their kids are taught maths?

I believe in achievement to be very clear. But the flip side of the same coin is turning Some kids and families off.

Very happy with how it is being taught at Heber, they follow this curriculum: https://whiterosemaths.com

I guess all approaches will have pros and cons and the main thing is that the teachers are good and supportive. We don't have homework but one times table task a week.

    • Let's not forget this is the lowest level of local politics. If McCash really thought his defection could trash the Labour Party nationally, and it was loaded with invective and exhibitionism, then that's pretty much the definition of a "hissy fit"! Scooping the Green nomination for DaWN constituency is also going to be a lot harder for a Marxist arriviste than you suggest. There may be a wave of new, younger Polanski-ites that have joined the Green Party of E&W recently, but it's the long-standing, often retired members of the Party that tend to participate in candidate interview panels and bother voting in selections...
    • They've had 26 years or so of trading, and if anyone deserves decent retirement... In my view they're going out at the top. It's clearly being sold, assuming it all goes through as a very more more than just a going concern.
    • I had heard this was on the cards a while ago, sad, the end of an era, but well done Rod and Tim for stewarding a beacon of excellence for so many years.
    • Both your hopes will be fine, I think. Our waitress will stay on. The downstairs is getting refurbished, and the bar area enlarged, presumably by removing that awkward little 'lobby' by the loos.
