Hi there

My daughter starts in sept, and I've not got her uniform yet! We did go to the summer fare to look at the new design uniform, but it pored down with rain so didn't really get a look at the Uniform as we ran to the car to get out the rain. All I really saw was a red jumper with big bold black wording on that said Bessemer on. Is that the new design? If it was I'd love to see what the old one looked like! Is it black or navy bottoms they wear? I have serious baby brain at the mo!! Also is there a chance the school opens a few days before children start so I can buy uniform. Any info appreciated.

Thanks vanessa

Hi Vanessa

The uniform is the red school jumper with Bessemer on it, plus navy bottoms or pinafore dresses etc. There are also polo shirts available which have the new school logo on - we've got a couple of these but have also got plain white polo shirts. There's also the book bag.

I think there are a couple of inset days before term starts so you may be able to phone the school then (Mon 3 and tues 4 Sept) and speak to someone re buying uniform before term starts. Otherwise, perfectly ok to buy at the beginning of term.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for all your replies. I did wonder why the logo wasn't on the jumpers and just on polo top. I did have a moan to my partner that I thought the new design was horrible and thought it should have a logo on it, instead of big black bold letters. But now I know, how fantastic is it that a child won a competition to design it. Not many schools would of taken that chance! Well done Bessemer!! Think I will now warm to the jumpers.

I'm in the same boat. Have been calling the school...no answer. Went down to the school this morning...all closed up. Was sure someone said we'd be able to buy the school uniform on the last week of Aug (was told this at the summer fair). Have scoured the website...nothing. Am starting to panic. Just a simple update on their website would have done the trick.
Website is pretty woeful. On the plus side, I used my initiative and have bought some navy trousers and white polo shirts from Sains. New school bag and pencil case to boot! Will try to relax now and wait until I get some info on how to buy the school merchandise when school starts.

Thought I would revive this thread as opposed to starting afresh. I have a question regarding uniform that I hope someone can help with please.

Do children have to wear the branded uniform ie polos or can they be plain white polos? If they need to be branded can anyone tell me the fabric composition (surely the label states inside)? Hoping they can get away with plain white polos, I don't see a reason why its unacceptable. Need to ensure 100% cotton as my daughter has horrendous flares of eczema and cant wear synthetic materials, even 50/50 blends. Trying to root out 100% cotton uniform early to avoid panic last minute. I have found polos, cardigans in JL & M&S but struggling now with the usual polyester pinafores/skirts in a cotton version.

I called them a few weeks ago to ask about uniform. Sounds like they are pretty relaxed but really like them to wear the school sweatshirt and have school book bag. Apart from that you can get shirts, trousers, skirts etc from anywhere as long as in right colours - white top and navy bottoms if possible (black or grey if you struggle to find navy).

I'm happy to adhere to the rules, but obviously my daughters skin condition is number one priority to me especially after the severity of the year we have just had with her.

Finding school uniforms particularly trousers, skirts and pinafore in cotton and especially navy (cotton alternatives are all grey, even on eczema clothing sites) is a bit more tricky than the top half. Flipping 'crease resistant' polyester. Any help finding a retailer for these appreciated, anyone been through this before?

ETA: Thankyou both!

They are not strict about uniform at all. They're happy for the children to wear any red jumper, any white polo shirt, any trousers, skirts, summer dresses etc. They're not fussy on bookbags either but the school ones are very good quality less bulky than a rucksack.

Have you been offered a place then GinaG3?

Hi Gina,

My son has eczema, I can recommend the M&S 'Skinkind' range, 100% cotton and no scratchy seams or labels. They tend to run out of stock early so I would order as soon as you can. The skirts & trousers come in black or grey. The M&S range is much, much better value (at least a third of the price) than clothes from specialist eczema stores. M&S also do 100% cotton polo shirts, also very good. My son's school has been understanding about not having the school logo on the shirt, sweatshirt etc.

Congratulations on getting a place - I'm sure you'll love it. I have two children that attend and really like it.

My boys wear Sainsburys polos, sweatshirts and tracksuit bottoms and they are all cotton. I have bought the items with the logo on them but they always get lost and even though they are labelled they go missing.

Thank you both, it's been worth the wait.

Thank you for all the information, think I am just going to go plain on top and black on the bottom. Why navy anyway? Black is so much easier and smarter IMO. Will just do a plain red cardigan over the polo and pick up a book bag when the office opens early for sales.

No idea of class yet, I've had no communications from school so far just the council offer letter and phonecall. Hoping it arrives soon, waiting to see if she will be in friends classes from preschool. Would be nice for her.

    • Hi, oglander , Congratulations on your soon-to-arrive little lion - how exciting! It's always lovely to hear someone taking the adoption route (shelters are having a major crisis at the moment!). I've been in business for 15 years & can say with certainty that most cat owners in Dulwich have catflaps so, not only are they easy to have installed, but you shouldn't find yourself short of helping hands on these local forums. A catflap is a brilliant way to keep your little lion safely in overnight as well as generally keeping track of their comings & goings. I'd be happy to walk you through the set up once you've chosen your model (SureFlap & PetSafe are two popular brands). I'm sure the rescue has already advised, but just in case they haven't, it'll be very important to keep your newly adopted cat housebound for the first 2 weeks to familiarise themselves with their new home. Once they've scent-mapped the house, you can gradually begin letting them out to explore & scent-map the garden. Exciting times! x
    • Hello all,  If your child goes to this gym club: since the new payment system, have you received clear information about the cost per session, the cost per term and when sessions will be omitted eg for school opened days? (I have asked the club, more than once, no full response so far) This term started in late August, before school had gone back (did many attend that session?). Next term there is no break for half term, so there are 12 sessions to be paid. Does that seem to be more sessions than there used to be?    I am sure they are doing their best, but the info from the new auto pay system isn’t detailed enough, and the auto pay just takes an unspecified amount. I wondered if it’s just me (wanting more detail), or if there are others too? (my child loves the gym itself!) thanks
    • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent service! We had one of Paul Edgley’ s team come to fit some new lights in our living room. They were able to come at reasonably short notice, arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and did a great job. Everything was left clean and tidy afterwards, and the lights look fantastic. Highly recommend! Paul’s contact details are 07802 627967
