mothercourage
I know there are other threads on here about the pros and cons. I'm just wondering if anyone who's actually had sash windows replaced with double glazing can give their side of the story. In terms of noise reduction and heating costs, has it been worth the expense in your opinion?I've been given so much conflicting advice that I just want to hear from people who've been there, done it, paid dearly and come out the other side. Is it worth it? Or not?Any feedback would be much appreciated. Huguenot
I was on Crawthew Grove, and when we renovated the house we went from single to double and the impact was amazing. No aircraft noise. No street noise, just glorious rural peace ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25001-an-appeal-for-advice-from-anyone-whos-had-double-glazed-sash-windows-installed/#findComment-567232 Share on other sites
giggirl
Yes it was worth it Mothercourage. Less noise and less dust from outside. The house is warmer. The house feels more secure; the windows are solid and I think they deter burglars. fazer71
Yes it's worth doing.1. No condensation in cold wether.2. Less noise.3. Less cold & heat.Only downside is the cost.I did this at my last flat.If you have exisisting single glazed then it is possible to replace sash sliders with double glazed units because of the extra weight you'll need new matching lead weights.Otherwise it's complete replacement see the other thread. Jemmarc
Hi..I just wondered whether you went ahead with double-glazing as we are in the same boat? It is hard to get an idea of how much difference double-glazing and restoring exising sash windows makes compared with replacing them completely - we are on a busy main road. I have heard that that are some very authentic UPVC sash windows now which I am told would be better. Any advise would be welcomed. Thanks. Thanks. If you decide to go UPVC I can recommend this brand http://quickslide.co.uk/Cleaning from inside as they tilt in they look almost as good as original timber and they are a bargain price.Get the Victorian detail and find a local installer. You can price them up online so get a comparison supply only.
