Please do so if you - where ?you? means ?anyone? - are concerned about the littering. It?s more effective than writing on here though I understand that at least this method may prompt individuals to do more to keep the area clean.

interestingly there was a Southwark Council collection truck- the ones with the wire cages around the flat bed part- out and about on Bank Holiday Monday (on double time no doubt!) so there is NO excuse...

More practical than bigger bins? What are you suggesting? Or were you just referencing my comments re. signage? I agree bigger bins are the best option but there is some evidence that people will check their own behaviour if they are reminded how it negatively impacts others- I don't think it hurts to try as an additional measure. I have drafted a note so I will send it on and reference this thread.

This is a perennial problem.....of the 10 years I've lived in ED (and there are of course many who have been here longer), Whitbread comes up every once in a while. Just like the dog shit on the footpath thread. Everyone seems to agree that it's bad, but it's still happens. I know that very occasionally, things can get left behind, but surely that doesn't explain it. It certainly doesn't explain the dog shit, as that is not a 'mistake'. I guess people are just c#nts.

I was on Clapham Common yesterday evening, by the spot where the ice cream van normally is near Clapham High Street, i counted, within my immediate eyesight- NINE (9) huge bins for people to dump their rubbish in when they were finished on the common.

I went to Peckham Rye this evening for a atroll and was shocked by the amount of large groups and rubbish, it was like a festival. How that can be allowed to continue is beyond me. Every bin I saw looked something like the one in the attached picture- and the rubbish was blowing everywhere. I cannot imagine what is like for the poor people clearing it up, they must have their work cut out..

to be fair, that particular bun in your photo looks pretty organised (considering the trash wasn't taken home by it's owners), all stacked around the bin. But yeah, trash blowing around the park is out of order.

The problem is that if it's left like that, it does end up blowing around everywhere. It was already happening by 8pm so I dread to think what state the place is in this morning. Let's hope the pleas to the council for the bigger bins works as this will certainly help- most people will do the right thing if you make it easy for them.

Yes, I won't put my thoughts down on what I'd like to happen to those people, all my liberal values go out of the window! I'd like to think they are the very small minority but once alcohol and other substances are involved, this probably is not the case... good reminder of one of the reasons why this matters here (apols if not on Facebook)

More rubbish on Dawson?s Hill

I?ve reported it online to the council. I also suggested they move one of the empty bins at the bsck of the grass area to the place that?s attracting extra rubbish because the bin there gets fill and the selfish and probably young people (ab)using the space CBA to take their pizza boxes/empty bottles and cans with them.

I was in the Horniman yesterday morning and there was a scattering of litter around a (fairly full) bin, but that looked wind-blown to me - and probably left the night before. If the bin had been emptied the litter wouldn't have then blown out of it. In still conditions it would probably still be in the bin. Better to take your own litter away, but when there's a bin I'm not surprised it's used. The gardens are otherwise in great condition, and clearly there are enough staff to care for them from a horticultural perspective.

We've just been to Dulwich woods and it's the same there. Lots of drinks cans, glass bottles, single use plastic inside dens that kids want to play in. There was even some charred wood. Why anyone would think it's a good idea to light a fire inside a den in the woods at this exceptionally dry time is just beyond me.

Yes I noticed all the rubbish in the woods and also a burnt patch of earth that looked like someone had lit a fire.

It really upset me...I love those woods they have brought me peace in these anxious troubled times and It scares me that someones stupidity could mean all of that is lost.

Also in the Dulwich college playing field I saw several empty pizza boxes just lying on the grass where a group had obviously left them.

We are privileged to have access to these amenities at this time-they have been a real lifeline for me and I dont get why some people are so careless as to not respect our open spaces.
