Totally agree. Some people can't be bothered to carry their litter to the nearest bin, they just leave their rubbish on the ground and expect someone else to deal with it. Totally selfish behaviour. It is also a public health risk. Fines should be introduced.

I doubt if the people who do this are locals there are always loads of cars in Eynella and Eastlands etc- people too tight to pay the car park fees no doubt. I go to North Devon a lot and the streets there have dog mess (?1,000 fine btw) but it is not the locals that abuse the streets.

Enforcement officers. I've seen them out a d about in Clapham and Kensington. I reckon just catching people dropping cigarette butts would keep them busy, anything else would be a bonus . I think its about sending out a message that it's not ok and you may be caught. I imagine a lot of security guards could be looking for work right now.
If we had enforcement officers in the streets near newsagents they would make a killing because people just stroll out unwrapping the cellophane off their fags, wrapping off their ice lollies etc and dropping it on the ground despite the bins outside the shops. They would also catch plenty of people idling their car engines outside the same shops.

    • I'd also like to highly recommend Niko. He just replaced the extraction fan in our bathroom, having previously installed a new tap for us. Fast, professional and a really great guy.
    • Agree with this. He's stood down from his role in Cabinet having left the Party, but he was elected as a representative of all the constituents in his ward and logic suggests that he should continue to represent them as a councillor for his remaining 3 months. He might wish to stand again, as a Green, in that ward (if he's chosen) and hope that personal loyalty to him might transfer, but that's now the call of his (new) party and him. He will have to balance that with a view about how many of his Labour supporters will feel sufficiently betrayed to continue to support Labour. I suspect, I may be wrong, that he will not have a cabinet position open to him after May (unless the Greens sweep in locally) so presumably he will have to consider his next career move, and whether that's back to full-time primary teaching.
