Tesco don't sell draught and keg beer, or at least they hadn't changed into a pub last time I was in there :))

Not true pubs, bars and off licences have always been allowed to sell alcohol to takeaway. What is not allowed until July 4 is drinking it on the premises.

Now i'll grant you in recent days I think some places have been pushing that a bit by allowing customers to congregate outside.

You must REALLY notice the difference between bottled/canned vs draft beer, if you're inclined to pay 2-3 times the price!

Well yes, there is a massive difference!

The Pub is a Very British thing.. well it was...

Pubs are closing down at a rate of one every 12 hours, new figures show.

The Campaign for Real Ale say that 378 pubs shut down permanently between July and December last year in England, Scotland and Wales, representing more than 14 closures a week.

24 Feb 2019

Covid 19 really is the final nail in the coffin.

Most people I have spoken to say they would not be happy to go to the Pub if they open on the 4th July.

It is not going to be the same 'Social' night out we were once used to.

People have got used to Supermarket prices of Beer, Wine and Spirits.

Based on 3 pints per day at ?4.40 per pint. after 104 days of lock down I have potentially saved ?1372.80

That does not account for the occasional Shot at ?4.00 + a time.

I think it is very likely Pub Prices Could rise significantly. Food sales are likely to decline.

Eating out in our favourite local Restaurants will be a Very different experience.

Having to book in advance and not be able to make a snap decision when a few mates happen to fancy a Ruby..

It's grim..

Foxy :(

Perhaps Weatherspoon Pubs will continue as usual to cater for the local sole drinker.

I understand if there's a limited number of tables then pubs will want to fill them with family/'bubble' groups.

I do tend to be a solo visitor to pubs though - maybe I'll have to be a guest of Tim Martin :)

Cask ale is very different, I'd agree. Guiness/stout from a nitro tap is very different, too.

Lager and craft keg beer - not so much. In fact I'd say canned craft beer can be better. Probably fresher, and definitely more consistent.

Support the pubs, though. That would be a fine reason to get a takeaway beer.

    • Having enjoyed a day with Sayce HolmesLewis, I understand what you’re saying.  I appreciate your courage responding on here.
    • Thank you to everyone who has already shared their thoughts on this. Dawson Heights Estate in the 1980s, while not as infamous as some other estates, did have its share of anti-social behaviour and petty crime. My brother often used the estate as a shortcut when coming home from his girlfriend’s house, despite my parents warning him many times to avoid it. Policing during that era had a distinctly “tough on crime” approach. Teenagers, particularly those from working-class areas or minority communities, were routinely stopped, questioned, and in some cases, physically handled for minor infractions like loitering, skateboarding, or underage drinking. Respect for authority wasn’t just expected—it was demanded. Talking back to a police officer could escalate a situation very quickly, often with harsh consequences. This was a very different time. There were no body cameras, dash cams, or social media to hold anyone accountable or to provide a record of encounters. Policing was far more physical and immediate, with few technological safeguards to check officer behaviour. My brother wasn’t known to the police. He held a full-time job at the Army and Navy store in Lewisham and had recently been accepted into the army. Yet, on that night, he ran—not because he was guilty of anything—but because he knew exactly what would happen if he were caught on an estate late at night with a group of other boys. He was scared, and rightfully so.
    • I'm sure many people would look to see if someone needed help, and if so would do something about it, and at least phone the police if necessary if they didn't feel confident helping directly. At least I hope so. I'm sorry you don't feel safe, but surely ED isn't any less safe than most places. It's hardly a hotbed of crime, it's just that people don't post on here if nothing has happened! And before that, there were no highwaymen,  or any murders at all .... In what way exactly have we become "a soft apologetic society", whatever that means?
