I don't know if there any other members out there, but I note they have just put up their prices and I didn't recieve any notification of this. I love Jags sports club, but I'm thinking of joining anew gym. I used to love bringing a friend for a game of squash but they put paid to that by charging the ridiculous fee of ?8 for any guests using the facilities.

i dont really see that theres a problem with a gym or sports club charging a fee for guests, after all a member pays only for themselves so in theory a "guest" could be brought to every session and if the fee was split between the two persons thats half price membership for two people.any gym/sports club i have ever belonged to always charged a fee for guests and some of them a lot more than 8 quid.
I recently went to the fusion in brockwell park lido and they charge ?11 there is no use of the pool except in the summer of course and having the membership to goose green or the pulse makes no difference to what you pay to enter. Whats more it was tarted up on lottery money!

that was the problem with that gym when i was a member, the post session pint which usually turned into a session.

the only time i was in a sauna was approx 17yrs ago when the local leisure centre back home had a jacuzzi and sauna installed, i must admit i was quite enjoying it until my mate pissed over the stones, the smell was so bad and permeating that the mens changing facilites had to be closed down for a day to allow it to disperse.

Should we refer this to the working class/middle class thread?

  • 1 month later...

i phoned up jags and they said to come and have a look around anytime they were open. went for a look round a day later and was told that I needed to make an appointment to do so, as they were on a team building day, and watched 4 instructors and 2 receptionists have tea and biccies while a 5th instructor made me said appointment, which took longer than a quick shuftie round even the biggest of gyms would have taken. Had already wasted a half hour walk each way.

Cancelled appointment and now just run in the park.

Planning on summer gym use, was thinking Peckham Pulse looked worth a short bus ride. I think the absence of a gym in ED that is affordable, clean, and staffed by helpful people is a suprising deficit given the area demographic.

Hamlets: not clean or particularly helpful

ED Fusion: ditto

JAGS: didn't make it past the unhelpful staff

ESPH: not affordable

Peckham Pulse: still an unknown

My gym at college managed to hit all the buttons, and would even if the price were upped to non-student rates. have never found a replacement, and have just got progressively more tubby since graduating.

You can also use waverley between 4-10pm weekdays 9-5pm sat/sun not so much a bus ride as a hike up to the rye park which is included in the peckham pulse membership along with goose green.

Apparently goose green is only partially closed during the forthcoming revamp, so it is still accessible to users in some shape or form.

We were members of JAGS a while back but the service we got was woeful so membership was cancelled - the gym gets very busy and the school kids have priority over the swimming pool and other facilities - that's what cheesed me off so much, I'd often turn up for a swim when the pool was supposed to be members only to be told that there was some school event on (no prior warning), also on a couple of occasions they hadn't cleared the changing rooms of school girls before the member's gym session started, very embarrassing and totally inappropriate for the men who walked in on them....... I did try to have a conversation with the manager about a number of things, but his response was that I should see my membership fee as a charitable act, helping to fund less affluent kids to go to JAGS.......

Thanks to this thread though there does seem to be other options out there, will check them out.

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
    • Dawson Heights again  2 lifts out of order at ladlands block Christmas Eve so of course the 🛗 will not be repaired tomorrow Christmas Day or Boxing Day or when how do elderly or mothers with children and prams and food and presents get to the floors and with the 10 minutes you get to drop off  to park and not get a Pcn fine and delivery food to relatives who can’t leave their house unbelievable Southern housing does any know email address of Coe of southern housing
    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
