Jah Lush
Still boarded up and nothing seems to be happening. I'd love to see this re-open as a proper pub again. Any news anyone? Marmora Man
Looks like a prime pub to flats changeover to me. Large site, convenient for communications, unlikely to experience planning issues to build a dozen or more flats there. The boarding up doesn't look as if its in preparation for refurbishment works - more as if in preparation for demolition. Jah Lush
I remember the avery in the beer garden. I'd go there regularly on Friday nights in the mid-70s. The place was packed in those days. It had a very good restaurant as well. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor used to go there when they had a place in the village the 60s.I'd hate to see it turned into flats or demolished which, as Mamora Man has pointed out looks more likely to happen looking at the boardings. It's such an impressive building. Surely it should be Grade II listed? Just hope it can be saved and restored and run as a pub/restaurant again (not a Harvester obviously). GSJ57
I also spent way too many nights there in the 70's. The beer garden was fantastic - especially in that summer of 76! I would have thought it was a listed building too. Would be such a shame to see it demolished. jimbo1964
I too spent many a happy summer evening playing in the garden in the 1970's. Have to say I haven't been there in about 25 years which I'm feeling a bit sad about now. Doesn't look like it's reopening any time soon. minder
There was a notice on the front building (near the entrance) saying the building was being squatted in. This was a couple of weeks ago. Vik
I do remember the sheep from my childehood in the 80's, it's name was Mint Sauce :-)Would be a big shame to see it go, such an impresive looking building.
