I used to work in Kings and saw nothing but brilliant, dedicated people. So glad you had a good experience and are ok/on the mend. zeban
Jane, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Can I just say how lovely you are that you are so still so thankful at what must me a tough time. I agree that the The King's staff are truly wonderful and I'm actually considering going into nursing just from having watched and been inspired by 24 hours in A&E (filmed at King's). Mscrawthew
Sorry about your sad news Jane, I work and Kings and I am really glad everyone made things a little more personal for you when you were there. It`s a great place to work as most of the people there really do care. PALS are always glad for an email and will pass on your thoughts to the team involved. It really does make the staff smile when someone takes the time to write a few lines. genwilliams
I've been in & out of Kings a fair bit recently, in more than one department, and would like to second the words from other people here; I've been constantly impressed, in particular, by how much care the staff take to just be kind and reassuring to people. Being nice to people sounds like a no-brainer but when you see how full their waiting rooms are, how many people they have to look after, and how calm and patient the staff are all the time, it really does impress me. Pugwash
I too work at Kings, but mainly seeing people on the wards. In many ways Kings offer a superior service compared with other hospitals (mainly out of London) but like most work places, poor staff attitude and care can sour people's experience. I am glad you got all the positive and caring staff. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25926-thank-you-kings/#findComment-581334 Share on other sites

annabel42
I was admitted to Kings A @ E ithe middle of the night as an emergency and, for a different condition, am in their Dermatology Outpatients department for at least 4 scheduled appointments in each year. I have been going there for many years and I cannot praise their dedication, medical expertise, empathy and courteous consideration highly enough, on the part of both doctors and nursing and reception staff. Moos
I've been into King's twice to have my babies, the first was the longer stay as no.1 got stuck and ended up arriving by c-section. Both times hugely impressed by the quality of care from midwives, paeds and surgical team. This was before King's changed their 'turn no labouring woman away' policy, so the staff were under tremendous pressure. Both times I wrote in to say thanks (also sent chocolates) which is a small gesture but it's always nice to be thanked. Otta
Another "big up" to Kings, a fine hospital that we are very lucky to have. People can be quick to dismiss a hospital because the building itself is a bit run down in places, I did exactly that about Lewisham. The fact is though, that the care we receive FOR FREE is amazing.jane1, sorry to hear why you needed the hospital, it's very hard. Best wishes. gmm
My family, too, cannot praise all staff highly enough at King's. By nature not at all 'medicalised', my husband and I faced not one but 2 births necessitating months of highly intensive care afterwards for baby - I spent most of 1991 living in the hospital. I don't know how it would be now but 20 years ago all medical staff went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable with treatment decisions and to accommodate our wishes. We went to King's not Guy's as King's permitted care from one's own independent midwives - so glad we did. One of our young adults is still a regular visitor and King's is about the only reason that we are rooted in this area! The hospital also plugged in every resource it could when I had a recent health scare - and again for a friend who had a stroke. Hugely impressive operation, to offer this high level of care to local residents as well as attract visitors from all over the world to both its school and its leading-edge surgical techniques. A brilliant place ! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25926-thank-you-kings/#findComment-581780 Share on other sites
srisky
What a great thread! Unfortunately, people do have bad experiences and it's important to learn from them. However, positive feedback can do wonders to reinforce good practice (sometimes the staff may not realise that they have had any significant impact) and can boost morale. indiepanda
I've been to A&E a few times at Kings and though it's been a bit of a wait at times (which was no big deal as it wasn't life threatening stuff) I've always been very happy with the treatment, which is more than I can say for the local doctors. I've almost given up using my NHS GP (the infamous DMC on Crystal Palace Road), we can pay to see a private GP at work and it's much easier to do that despite the extra cost.
