Evening all...

Any ideas how to stop people from driving down the middle of the local roads so they can try and straddle the multiple speed cushions that are around?

Roads that used to comfortably accomodate 2 cars travelling in opposite directions now become a game of chicken with drivers pulling out and accelerating to try and get their wheels either side of the bumps.

Its dangerous and bloody annoying.

(The only amusing note is that its far better for your suspension to take the bumps head on, (what with it being designed to go up and down,) rather than try and straddle them, which forces the wheels into a position theyre not designed to be in.)

nothing you can do. i don't understand why they don't just make full bumps across the full breadth of the road, it won't be because of cost - the edging of 3x separate bumps takes time.

it is a wind-up where (as you say) a road where you could usually pass an oncoming car gets blocked because the oncoming cars insist on straddling the bumps, they avoid going over with their right-hand side !!

breathe deep....

From his moniker I guess Panda Boy is a cop - maybe even a black rat - so that is probably not an option!

Think the gaps in the sleeping policemen are to allow fire appliances to sail through un-bumped - am most probably wrong though! (s I am sure someone will come steaming in to tell me....).

It's also worth noting that straddling the humps in a normal car can, given the poor construction of the humps, cut and damage the inner and unseen walls of tyres. This makes them more likely to suffer a blow out, which at speed can easily result in a major traffic accident.

Nope, not a cop! (Good guess though.) If I was i'd probably be able to pull people over and explain to them that accelerating down the middle of the road in a built up area isn't really a very good idea.

Just royally p*ssed at the way some people drive round here; selfish, dangerous and just downright bloody rude.

Think the humps, and more like them are here to stay unfortunately so its down to us to adapt to them.

(Now i'm annoyed that the mods have moved this thread to the lounge after I posted it in the general section. Obviously the sighting of a hedgehog in a garden, or an incredibly tedious bad pun filled thread about tomato sauce are more worthy topics in the general section than trying to highlight bad driving habits in the local area. Thanks mods, nice one, still waiting for an explaination for this by the way...?)

I know I know, just a little confused as to what the mods see as general discussion and lounge material. Obviously terrible puns are more worthy than quesioning local road safety...

(Mods - still waiting for an explaination by the way?)

Pb, wasn't me who moved your post but just so you know we don't automatically know you're talking about us - the mind-reading lizards thing is just a rumour ;-)

Try reporting your message so it's seen by the whole team and I'm sure someone will let you know. Otherwise you'll have to wait until the person who moved it happens to read this thread again.

Just a guess, but it may be that Admin scanned the titles and thought it seemed non-ED specific.

Fair point, but I intended it to be a specific ED issue, as I posted it on the ED forum and used the phrase 'local roads'. But I shall be even more explicit in future.

Have emailed the mods, waiting for a response...

More important things than tons of metal and glass playing chicken on residential roads?

Really?

I would hope dangerously bad local driving habits would be taken more seriously.

If the level of important things has tomato sauce puns and hedgehog sightings near the top, then i'm clearly expecting far too much from this forum.

(Not anti hedgehogs by the way, love the little buggers!)

And thanks Family Room Moderator, will take your advice. Not trying to kick up a stink, just ken to know their reasoning.

Speed bumps are irritating but they're not dangerous. Nothing to get het up about.

    • It has come to this author’s attention that the world of 4+ admissions — that most enigmatic of educational rites — continues to bewilder even the most composed of parents. Fear not. For in a former life, I was not merely a humble observer, but a seasoned educator of over twenty years, and Head of Pre-Prep for a distinguished dozen. Now, with quill exchanged for touchscreen, I have taken to that most modern of salons — Instagram — to dispense guidance, answer frequently whispered questions, and illuminate the shadowy corners of school selection with clarity and calm. Each post bears my signature twist: a blend of insight, levity, and the occasional raised eyebrow. Should you find yourself adrift in the sea of admissions, I suggest you peruse my latest dispatch. • Perhaps Gooseygreeny was not familiar with the wildlife before Gala was imposed on the park, since when its value to wildlife has deteriorated. The Park had never been disturbed before, as the council had respected it as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, so only the Common was licensed by them as a site for events. The first time Gala held their event, there was a tree with woodpeckers nesting in it right in the middle of the main field they used and thrushes, blackbirds and great tits nesting within the shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the field. The woodpeckers were thriving on ants from the anthills in the grass. To those of us who used to enjoy watching the wildlife, it was very obviously a Site of Importance for a variety of birds. Despite being accessed by the public and their dogs, it had been relatively undisturbed,  which was one of the main reasons why it was so special and why I have been opposed to the Gala festival being held during the bird nesting season.
    • So dangerous!    Can you be more specific about the road this was in and when you report it?  Maybe there’s some CCTV footage available
