This is an odd request but hopefully someone will have some pearls of wisdom.

I want to buy my partner a decent bag suitable for cycling to work for his birthday next week. It needs to be attractive, visible, not too bulky yet have enough space for change of clothes, lock etc. Anyone know of a good brand to look at??? Willing to spend up to ?100.

Found these in the for sale section - altura are good.

Alternatively http://www.ortlieb.co.uk/

Personally I've managed OK with a cheap pair of panniers from Decathlon but perhaps that's because I'm a tight-wad :)

Pannier bags are best IMO but he'll need a rack if he doesn't already have one.

Ortlieb are fab but expensive, Altura cheaper but still good quality and hard-wearing, and those two brands seem to account for most of the pannier bags I see around. I have one of these:

which I use for daily commuting. It will hold a change of clothes and a file of papers, plus mini pump, tool, spare tube etc. If he needs to take anything more bulky he'll want something a bit bigger.

    • Ah sorry, it was comedy.
    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
