Anyone tried a Brazilian Blowdry?

I did one last year when they allowed formaldehyde and it was awesome, lasted 8 months! No need to blow dry at all.


They have since regulated it so the actual working (yet unhealthy) chemical is now no longer in the formula. I can say that it does help me have straighter hair, but I do need to blow dry it each day unlike last time.


Do I thin it is worth 200 quid? No. But if you can get a deal I would try it out.


That said, it does depend on your hair and what you are looking for as an end result. I will not be getting it done again, I think the price is too steep for the results I get. I might try the straightening at home kits.


If anyone knows any place that still uses the formula with formaldehyde though, let me know - I would gladly pay the price for the potential health risk (to the client and the others in the salon).

Is ?80 for a particular length of hair? Mine is down to my bra strap.. Also does it take long at home? I have a 1 year old so not sure I could be in a chair for hours and it might be better to leave him at home and get it done in a salon.. thanks!

Yes mine is nearly as long as yours Strawbs. Whole process took about an hour.

You wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo, she blow dries. Then she paints on the stuff onto your dried hair, leave for twenty minutes, rinse again, then finally it is blow-dried again and gone over with flat irons to lock the stuff in.


You can't wash or tie up your hair for 3 or 4 days after and it gets pretty greasy in this time.



ClareC. I still blowdry my hair as normal (rough drying) and it doesn't need going over with straightening irons unless i'm going on a night out and want it poker straight. I've found my hair is more volumised but some others I know have said the opposite. The downside (IMO, a small price to pay), I find that I have to wash my hair more often now, but maybe that's because I'm constantly running my fingers through it.

Hi, I've just had it done and wouldmrecommendnit. My hair is generally frizzy and wavy and bb has made it much calmer. I still usea straightener if I want it to look really neat but don't have to. My hairdresser friend who is on maternity leave and free lancing came home and did it for me, she brought her little girl (1 yr old) who played with my 1 yr old! I have shoulder length hair and she charged about ?50. Let me know if anyone wants contact details!

This thread just made me choke. I've never heard of Brazilian Blowdry and assumed it meant an extra feature of the well-known "brazilian"! The first couple of comments about achieving straight hair for long periods of time left me slightly bemused, then it clicked. I can't stop laughing. At Myself. Oh well. You learn something new...

Tee hee, I only knew as I thought it sounded rude and then googled it! The results sounded totally not rude and too good to be true! Can't stop thinking of how the other type of Brazilian could be blow dried.. Sounds painful!

My sister in law used to have this done, she has almost afro-type thick curly hair (she is Spanish) - her hair was transformed into sleek, silky straight hair, it was amazing! Costs a fortune to get it done properly usually but from seeing her results it does last - hers grew out rather than came out...

If you are thinking about getting a brazilian blowdry for the festive season, get booking now. Carly has already got 8 booked in for the first week in December (including me! yay!).

It's ?80 with a free cut. You will need to buy aftercare shampoo and conditioner, she can get this for you if you mention when booking or you can order online from Amazon.

Had my second Brazilian blow dry done by Carly this week. Had a free cut as well, my hair looks amazing, even if I do say so myself! So nice to wash my hair,blow dry it and go! No effort required! No more looking like Diana Ross dragged through a hedge backwards!

      I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there  back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?

      If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was a little further down the road towards LL, probably where the Fresh Flower Company is today. I'd forgotten all about it, with good reason. I think it disappeared before Blue Mountain opened and became a pizza place? I once bought a carton of milk from the deli and when I opened it, it was solid. I did get my money back though.
