I'm with Orange and haven't had a problem at all, but can't say specifically today as the phone is using my home WiFi.

No problem with texts, calls or downloading stuff today, and no problem yesterday when I wasn't at home.

Sue..

Your phone signal comes from the nearest Orange/EE Aerial.

Your Wi Fi signal comes from your Wireless Router . (If your phone has Wi Fi.) ??

They are completely separate entities.

Your phone calls do not go over Wi Fi unless you are using Skpe.

If you have Data Enabled then you can access the internet via your Phone Line when Wi-Fi is not available.

This is expensive once you have used up any allowance you may have.

My EE signal is fairly weak indoors.

Fox.

I recently switched from Orange (not 3G) to O2 (3G) and now have the worst time of my life with connection. The lack of signal is pathetic. Also when it goes completely wrong my phone displays and seems to get locked into its own no signal symbol - I have to switch it off and on again to get it going.

Finally, sussed the difference between a 3G phone and a 4G phone - you don't want to smash a 4G phone against the wall for being so rubbish.

Yes I know.

Downloading on my phone uses the WiFi when it's connected, no?

ETA: I'm aware calls and texts don't use WiFi :)

Make sure you have an up to date 3G sim card. I got sent one last year and ignored it then Orange turned my existing sim card off and I had to ring up about it. All a bit embarrassing really as I should have just swapped my sim when instructed.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
