nunhead_man
Sorry if this has been done to death but thought this might be useful to some here .............................................Message from Southwark Rail Users' Group (SRUG)On 9th December the new London Overground (also known as the East London Line, ELL) arrives in Peckham and Camberwell. The day before, the South London Line service is ended.SRUG has over the last year been developing, with local users, its own rail map of our local rail connections to the Tube, showing how the new Overground service fits with our direct rail connections to central London stations. You might find it useful to have a look at this on: http://www.bellenden.net/SRUG-maps where you can download a copy. ........................................Frequently asked questions on the ending of the inner South London Line:go to http://goo.gl/YA7Rx to see London Travel Watch answers to the FAQs below,......................................... Bic Basher
Thanks from me too. SRUG provides an excellent map while London Travelwatch explain the alternative travel pattens for SLL destinations in a much more detailed way. Huggers
the map has a cutoff at West Brompton, where does the ELL go after there? I had no idea it would take us all the way west, I think that's brilliant. The line you're seeing is the West London line which starts at Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction with an extra 2tph which go on to Stratford via Camden Road. As they're both London Overground services, they're coloured orange. bil
Thanks for thatDoes anyone know why Brixton wasn't included in the ELL2? It looks like the train will have to pass through it to get to Clapham high street Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26929-train-links-update/#findComment-594861 Share on other sites
jimmyraj
They would have to build a new station at Brixton were it to stop there as the mainline station there is on the herne hill not Denmark hill line, Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26929-train-links-update/#findComment-594863 Share on other sites

edw
The idea of building another platform at Brixton station on the clapham high st to denmark hill line has been repeatedly suggested, and not too long ago it looked like it might happen. Sadly it never did. It seems like such a waste - the line literally runs right by Brixton station already, and a stop there would link nicely with the Tube and Herne Hill lines, plus provide access to Brixton market, shops, bars, etc. Oh well. Bic Basher
There used to be a station on the SLL at East Brixton which was open until the mid 70s. Ironically, it was the Victoria Line extension which opened in 1971 and a fire in 1975 which saw it being closed in 1976. edw
That was further down towards Loughborough Junction though, not right by Brixton station. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26929-train-links-update/#findComment-594969 Share on other sites
Bic Basher
The only way it appears to get a new station built is with private financing. I believe that's how Imperial Wharf was funded and the same for Surrey Canal Road which will eventually be built between Queens Road Peckham and Surrey Quays on the ELL.
