its an ok course for inner london, but the one at beckenham place park is far superior, i havnt played there for 2-3 years but it has a great clubhouse does a nice feed and the 19th hole is always welcome. i dont know if they still do it but there used to be a bloke driving around the course in a buggy selling snacks, sandwiches and drinks, he even when to the clubhouse one day to get me 20 fags, thats what i call service.
Tis the Aquarius. It's a bit of an odd course, worth going up to the clubhouse and asking for a look round as they are friendly bunch but I think it's ?300-400 which I thought waa bit steep. Beckenham is great. Really varied holes and some great challenges but the greens aren't always well looked after and you have to look out for hackers. I never sawa abloke in a buggy with a travelling tuckshop. Sounds good though. And their membership is a lot more reasonable.

The Aquarius is at the end of Marmora Road. Very friendly and un "cliquey". Greens pretty poor and in the summer it becmes very dry. A lot of Thames Water engineering work going on which affects layout of the course.

It has been there for well over 50 years - possibly longer.

Dulwich golf course can be joined if you are proposed by a member, if not a member then you have to have lessons with their golf pro who vets you, and then if you are willing to wear knee length socks when you turn up in shorts you will be proposed by him.

Beckenham place is a superb course and well tended. The greatest test is the first hole which is the toughest of the course. When you are teeing off there is often a queue of players waiting and judging your every move, and if you fluff your very first tee shot, it can be embarrassing. When I looked up after hitting it about 20 yards instead of the expected 200 to see that they had kindly turned their backs to face the clubhouse, whilst they all laughed up their sleeves. Allow 4 hours for the full 18 holes. I also had my only round of applause on any golf course for an accidental fluke of an eagle, on the final hole I chipped in from 60 yards out, up on to a raised green, where everyone sits to drink and recover after completing their round.

Dulwich course is cool no knee length socks needed, weekdays is all good. 9 holes bar then the other nine and it is all fine. just have respect and mind your manners and you will be fine. As for Aquarius it is technically Nunhead so Ed'ers go play on goose green with your tin cans.

EDF golf day is a great idea. (come on Mark sort it out)or Muttley you can organise it>

Just want to say that one the best courses to play that you dont have to be a member is Pedham Place. Its a little bit far out (just down the A2 where it hits the M25)Its a pay & play course ?20 a round or ?10 if you go after 1pm (I think)The course is fab and generally the grounds always dry(good natural drainage) Go play it boys and girls because a large corp will buy it one day because the layout is great and then you will have to pay fortunes to play it

    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
