Uh, sorry, but modern Snow Patrol is really good -at least to these codgerish ears. Ok, naive, but gets at a certain unvarnished truth emotional truth. Is it hopelessly naff to like Kings of Leon? That guy's voice is deeply special - and vibes on that rarest of things - honestly expressed male passion and vulnerability.

Paper Planes by MIA is this wonky/skanky celebration of sudden-death sink estate culture.Scary but compelling and ridiculously catchy. Weirdly featured in Slumdog.

Anyone know Schnauss? Modern German bloke who's electronica is a kind of blissed out exploration of mood and theme.

I agree about Paper Planes, in fact the whole of MIA's album KALA is like that - kind of sinister yet extremely catchy and humorous. She also uses a really big range of styles, featured artists etc. I'd definitely recommend it.

Neko Case's new album, Andrew Bird's new album, both very nice thank you, though neither hitting the dizzy heights of their respective predecessors, and the School of Seven Bells - Alpinisms, which I'm highly recommending.
