Viv and I have to give you the SAD NEWS THAT HOOPERS WILL BE CLOSING WITH EFFECT FROM Xmas Eve.

Haven't the time to explain the problems of running a profitable pub just now, but you can probaly guess anyway. If you call in, I will be happy to explain a few of the reasons we had to come to this sad decision.

We would love to say our farewells to all the customers and neighbours we have become friends with over the last 6 years, so if you want to catch up with us, we will be HERE FROM Thursday 20th from 6pm, and all weekend from 4pm Fri 21st to Sun. 23rd.

However it is not our style to go out with a wimper, so we are putting one last gig this Friday, which we think will be of interest both to you. It is the annual Xmas bash of the Nunhead Folk Circle at 8.00pm on Friday 21st Dec.

http://nunheadfolkcircle.com/index.html and listen to some of their music on http://nunheadfolkcircle.com/Music.html

Think mistletoe, log fires and mulled wine! Plenty to get you in the Xmas mood!

We will continue to offer the best in micro-brewed ales to the end, with new Selhurst local brewer, Clarence & Fredericks, as well as Redemption and Burton Bridge all available.

There are also some bargains in our foreign bottled beer ranges to be bagged!

We wish everyone a very Happy Christmas, and hopefully, dear God, a more prosperous New Year

So sorry and sad to hear this Jamie, I know how much hard work and imagination you and Viv put into the pub and I've had some lovely times there. It's a great loss to the area, that's for sure.

Always a pleasure and Jason and I will pop in before last orders if we can (little one permitting.

I wish you the best of luck with the next chapter.

Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year to you both

I'm very sad to hear this. Hoopers was easily one of the best pubs in the area and its selection of ales was second to none. Also enjoyed the great entertainment there too. I've thoroughly enjoyed the times I've spent in there over the last six years and will try and pop in for a slurp or two before you close. Best of luck Jamie and Viv for the future and thank you very much for your great hospitality.

There were/are a couple of people in the pipeline with possible business plans for it to continue as a pub, apparently.

But yes they may not be viable, so worst case scenario would be flats - at least it's unlikely to become a betting shop, which has been the fate of many pubs (often prior to then becoming flats, of course .....)

    • Kam was with us last week to wallpaper a bedroom. He was a pleasure to deal with and did a fantastic job - very neat and matched the tricky pattern very well. Would certainly use again.
    • What a bunch of pieholes. 2025 and you peasants have nothing to be grateful for. I have been inside the library recently and honestly the old girl is crying for a facelift, the goddamn carpet looks like it survived the world war and some. The Library is one of the oldest in Southwark and you are crying about a study place? What a bunch of bullshit. You have libraries all around you for your kids to go their studying you rotten sausage. How about be happy that the library is going to look absolutely stunning rather than be a whining bitch about it   Also, I have been told that the staffs have to work in the smaller libraries together. How do you think they feel?
    • I would like to recommend Aaron, who has just finished 5 days plastering work in my house. He is professional , polite, tidy, punctual and reliable. He did a fantastic job, a good price and a top quality finish. Highly recommended! Aaron Manser 07773 410661
    • Sadly, but not unreasonably, councils find it difficult to justify such expenditure on their current budgets. My family, which does like fireworks have been enjoying the displays by those still with disposable wealth by viewing them from Hilly Fields. Other hills (Dawson Heights) are available. For children who have autumn and winter birthdays, a firework display is some consolation for their birthday climate. My grandchildren, being summer babies, can enjoy garden parties and picnics. Without the need for explosions and dazzling display.
