The link merely confirms that there is a Penguin book called Spot goes to the beach. It shows the cover illustration of a dog and a penguin with their surfboards. I doubt it contains anything at all in the scatological department.
I've never used the word scatological before and had to look it up. Thank heavens I never used it in casual conversation. I got the word 'sod' (of earth) mixed up with turd as a teenager, I expect 'turf' was on my mind. A good example of scatology? Dog poo in beaches is pretty horrid. As is human poo both raw and in sewage.

I think the question needs to be asked, is it a playground or a playhound? Dogs are always allowed in the latter I'm pretty sure.

Nice .... takes me back to the 70s as a kid, doing the long jump into the sand pit at school during PE... usually a mine field of chod, teachers had to rake it before a lesson just incase due to dog walkers on the sports ground over the weekend. But sometimes they missed a lurking richard ... happy days.

    • Thanks penguin  always wondered about that place and that’s way more info than I ever thought I would get  (used to live above a gun nut on friern road - he would tell me nothing)
    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
    • Did anyone actually venture in to that place? I recall it always being closed/very uninviting!
